From my amateur knowledge of composites, the gold color is probably kevlar, while the black is carbon fiber.

I should point out that the first image that appears to show a silver/black checkerboard pattern, that is just a trick of light - the checkerboard is black/slightly-less black.

I was going to say I didn't remember any of our stuff looking like it had brown in it. Carbon fiber has always been light but this big weave stuff is ridiculously light.
