I like this one Ralph. That is is a nice smooth paint job with some good shine to it. Is the red separation line thin vinyl?
I remember how surreal it was to see the car on track. Full Duracell colors with Penske markings. The Penske/Rahal car swaps of 1994 & 1995 made for some interesting sponsor combos. I noticed that the rear wings kept their original sponsorship while the rest of the cars got updated - strange!

Great work Ralph. Love the dual livery and brings back memories! Thanks guys, yes it was half Raul Boesel's Duracell backup car & Penske M@r1b0r0. Must have been an agreement to leave the Duracell marking.

I'm not sure there's much to it, although looking at the Rahal-commandeered Penskes from 1994, they left M@rlb0r0 on the rear wing while they got in the show.
But if Al Jr and Emmo had qualified, I'm sure those cars would have been white and red on raceday.

As for the paint scheme, cars in this period were still painted, decal wraps did not come along for several years. They literally wheeled this car over to their shop and worked on it tirelessly trying to qualify. There simply was no time for anything else. Had it qualified, then it would have been painted for the race. Our garage was across from Penske. I still remember Emmo standing outside giving the "raise the roof" gesture, which he explained meant "pooooshing sheeeeet uphill". When we all came in on Monday after bump day, the garages were completely cleaned out and Penske Racing was gone. I can sympathize because our car missed the race too, standing at the head of the line at 6pm.

What I'm referring to: which became: Damn. I don't think I've ever seen that picture of Rahal.

Yeah -- I think they were a little more focused on the scramble to get the cars in, not re paint them I think their biggest mistake was tearing apart a car with enough speed to qualify and making it "Penske perfect" before it actually qualified. Qualify the damn car as is, then do your "magic" to it.

Just in case my post was misinterpreted, I was just trying to point out that the cars were not as they would have appeared on raceday, and so I don't think too hard about where they drew the line in replacing sponsor decals.

When you are talking about your garage being across from Penske's, are you talking about the garages at the track ? Thank you, Robby
