Remember the Castrol Lotus Bill Brack drove? Well I had enough parts to recreate a phantom version of this odd F5000 car...I started with a gluebomb assortment of parts to make another "Frankenstein" F5000 car... I used the faithful sprint car engine from Monogram... I wanted to change the nose a bit and did some slicing and dicing with putty on the top... body work and sanding... add some paint and, my fave time...decals! connect the rear suspension and tires... add the front suspension and tires... Nearly ready. I have one week to finish it for the F5000 car display at the NNL/West next Saturday. Patrick

Great scratchbuilding, Patrick. The build and look of the car are really enjoyable to watch transform.

To bring this topic back to life long after you showed us the pretty much finished product... Patrick, you never told us what scale this model is, except I know the engine is 1/24. But it looks rather small in the car. It almost seems like the car is about 1/22. You said you used parts box pieces. But do you know which kits the tub, suspension and wheels/tires came from. I expect they're from different kits. The tub and suspension I think is from an IMC Lotus 38, 1965 Indy winner kit. The wheels are pretty cool and the tires are pretty close for the car and the era, but I don't recognize either.

Dusty, The model is a 1/24-25 mixture. The main body/monocoque was the 1/25 IMC Lotus 38. The engine was from a 1/24 Monogram sprinter. The wheels are 1/25 IMC units and the MFH '70s Sports car tires fit nicely. You know me I build "outta the box"...the spares box! Patrick
