Got a couple 1/43 kits that the tires have hardened and cracked. Does anyone know where I can get various 1/43 tires?
FYI... one is a 917 Longtail and the other is a Scarab F1 car.

One thing I've done with hardened tires is to open up the center so they can slip on the wheel.

This is a real problem for some '43 kits. Marsh, for one, has started making their tires out of resin. There's several European 1/43 companies that make aftermarket parts including wheels and tires. I bought some wheels and tires of different sizes by Remember off of ebay. They were for a Ferrari (including the Ferrari wheels) of about the same year as a 917 so the tires would probably work. Can't recall if they had Porsche wheels/tires available. MG Model Plus and here in the US Historic Racing Miniatures make some narrow early '60s F1 tires that might work on your Scarab.
You can also check with Grand Prix Models in England as they stock kits and aftermarket products like these.
Just a thought also, maybe fill in the crack with thick super glue and zip kicker, sand it to shape and cast it in resin.

What brand are the kits? If they are still in business, you should be able to get replacement tires from them. 'Though I suspect you are asking because they are from defunct companies. Along with Grand Prix Models, another place to check is Spot Model in Spain. Their URLs are: www.grandprixmodels.co.ukwww.spotmodel.comBTW, search with the term "tyres" not "tires". :-) Mike
