.....thank you so much for letting me join this site. Now,I'm not going to pretend and say I've been a modeller for years,in fact the first model I've built in a long long time was the Revell Midget I got for Christmas last year. The reason for me joining this forum is for me to get some hints and tips on building a replica of a little Sprint car I've been building in 1:1 scale....been into cars forever, and have restored a few Corvettes, and built a few Hot Rods...always loved Sprints and Indy race cars,so hope you don't mind dumb questions, and hope you can help when I get stuck......thanks

....right,thanks for the welcome guys...hope you like the photo's....I thought I'd build a 1/24th model with not too much detail for my first time build,so I'm on the look out for a suitable donor to start with....time to hit the bay....

That looks great! An ARM Kuzma might be a good start on your model build.

Turned out really great - nice job to you and the other craftsman. Hope to see you progressing on your scale subjects, too! Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the Forum. We are, almost to a man...err person, into American open wheel racing history. You'll find that we are also Anglophiles who are very attached to Clark, Hill, Spence, and others who have come here from Blighty to win our eternal respect for their exploits at the Brickyard and other tracks around our country. It is great to find someone "over ther" who has a passion for our type of open wheel racing cars. And you will find many here who can help, advise, and provide bits and pieces for you to complete your scale replica.

Welcome to the Forum. We are, almost to a man...err person, into American open wheel racing history. I have always loved American cars since as long as I can remember....my first passion was the Hot Rod,then as I got older Vettes did it for me.....when I retired my wife said I should take on a project that I would not finish in 18 months. My dad bought me tin toy of an Indy car when I was a kid,and I always loved the Sprints that I had read about in Hot Rod....My knowledge of such cars is limited, that's all I knew is I liked them. The car I have built is almost all home built,to at least resemble a real ''Sprint'' car. I really hope it does.

I have been around "sprinters" quite a bit. I have friends who have built them (re-creations) I have to say yours looks outstanding. You really captured "the look" from around 1955! Very nice.
as you have not built anything in a while, I suggest buying a AMT Grant King sprint car (this was a series using the same parts, see also "Pole Cat" or "Drifter") Right now I am restoring a Grant King model I built as a kid. The bones of this kit are excellent, it's the other components that leave a bit to be desired. I was amazed at the amount of after market parts on the Internet for 1/25th scale sprint cars.
I recently bought some tire and wheel combinations off a company selling such items on ebay Australia. Sorry I don't remember their name but they have extensive parts (and I searched for like a month looking for stuff) I found other companys out there like Big Donkey Resins and several others. One company offers axles, modern wheels, rear ends and all kinds of parts. It was almost looking like a Speedway Motors catalog!
Check out "Mac Millers Garage" on the Internet. I have known Tom (aka Mac Miller) for years. He builds re-creations for a living. I don't always agree with the aesthetics of his builds but that does not harm our friendship. He has done "The Fike Plumbing Special" and the "Barnett Brothers Special" for a Marion County Doctor friend of ours. He just finished a "re creation" of Ronnie Dumans 1964 Indy car. He has a web site chalked full of interesting stuff and is also on FaceBook. His C.V. is extensive as he worked with Paul Leffler for years and years.
Welcome to the Message board.

hubie....thanks for the help....a friend of mine already uses Big Donky to build slot cars, and ''Mac Miller'' has been a friend for a while....he is an inspiration, and although a lot of guys in the States don't know it,they have been the reason my project has got this far......you are right I wanted a car from the '50's,and I have modified later parts(Beck) to look ''period'' ....you got it,so I feel it has worked...
