I always look forward to the 24 - the official start of the racing season.
So I looked at an email from IMSA with the broadcast schedule. Now, I realize I'm a simple minded guy, but what the ...heck. Two hours on Fox 1, two hours on Fox 2, a bunch of hours on Fox Sports Go (what ever that is), some more streaming on IMSA.com, then Fox 2, Fox 7, then run to Best Buy as they are broadcasting only to them for awhile, then more coverage on goodlucktryingtowatch.net, and finally about 20 minutes of the finish on Fox 1.
Well, I pay DirecTV 100 freaking dollars a month, I have channels in every language I've ever heard of, and several in some I've Never heard of. There are 120 cooking channels, another 50 wannabe QVCs, NFL, NBA, etc etc. But NO Fox Sports 2. Lots of other Fox Sportses, but not FS2.
If IMSA is paying Fox for coverage, I hope they get a big refund.
Today's rant is over.

I'm with you, the first major race of the year, and we get crap coverage.

I agree with both of you but sadly I remember the days of Wide World of Sports getting 20 minutes of delayed coverage.

I do too, Terry, but now we get 200+ channels, vs 4 or 5 in the old days, most of which are crap. You would think that Daytona would rate more than that. I'm going to be interested in what Fox thinks is "more important".

I miss the good ol' days of Speedvision. I remember watching the entire flag to flag coverage of the 2001 Rolex 24 hrs....those were special times for me.
Back when it was a big mixture of 79 different sportscars on the track all it once. I miss the R&S's and the Ferrari 333sp's

BTW back in the day CBS did highlights of the Daytona 24....the earliest one I can prove is 1978. Then in 1983 WTBS started to show the first half hr and last half hr live clear up until 1991 when ESPN took over the coverage.

I think the only motorsports that has got an improvement in a TV package this year is NHRA moving to FS1 and FOX network with almost all live events this year.
As they improve in coverage IMSA is going down hill and Nascar is going to get hurt this year during the Olympics as they will have to show the Bristol night race on USA network!!!!!! LOL!

I'm going to be interested in what Fox thinks is "more important". Probably girls high school basketball..... or the world thumb wrestling championship. or a documentary of the legends of North Korean Golf. world hopscotch championships.....

As a former Thumb Wrestling Champion I must register a formal protest with the Board's governing body over this insult. Sandy

Two board members working the 24. I'm returning to Paul Miller Racing #48 Lamborghini and SWT500 is making his debut spotting for Rahal.

On the other hand, what is Fox 7 - a local channel?

To get Fox 2 you need the super-duper, bend over until it hurts, if-you-have-to-ask-you-can't-afford-it, package. :-) MJ

Very true, FS2 is available on Dish, but I'm not about to spend an extra $20- $25 per month just to watch a couple of extra hours. What we spend now for lots of commercials pi**es me off no end. Thankfully, the DVR solves most of that.

Not sure about ALL Comcast (Xfinity) outlets, but where I am in Indiana we have fox Sports, which seems to be different from the other offerings and those are limited to FS1 FS-Midwest (usually doing college sports and sometimes Indiana Pacers NBA games).
I don't think the "merger" of the two sports car series did anything to benefit either. Fans never know where to find the events, if they are even available.

If you go to IMSA.COM it has all the broadcast times and channels. I have signed up with them and they will send you emails well in advance

I don't think the "merger" of the two sports car series did anything to benefit either. Fans never know where to find the events, if they are even available. I wouldn't say that. Since the merger, I believe all broadcasts have been on Fox1 and/or Fox2, in part or in full. (I don't think any have been on Fox proper.) And after watching a true Prototype win at Daytona, I may actually pay a little bit more attention this season. What I would like any network covering sports car races with multiple drivers per car do is stop listing the driver as the main item in the race standings. Please list the team name. The driver is irrelevant. (Well, not quite.) You can't remember all the drivers in all the cars, but give us a team name and we'll know our favorites. The driver would be secondary, just to tell us who is in the car at that moment. (Yes, I know they list the car number now, but again, we don't know all the numbers. Not when there are that many cars.)
