Some startup work here with the half shafts being fitted. having to bore out the uprights was a better option than making entirely new one. Here you can see the threaded aluminum that will serve as the spindle for the upright is in place but needs to be cut down a bit. The axles out of the transmission. A look at the fabbed up shocks, springs and new lower mounts

Having to open up these tubs is crucial to making the car LOOK realistic and have a believable product when finished.you can see the little lips on the spacer in the nose.....still a bit rough but with some tlc....you'll never know it was there. Installing engine ancillaries such as water pumps and oill pumps....alternators , make the engine just glow. all of the conduit and piping is scratch from aluminum and plastic rod. All of the sh#t that was cut off of the bottom side of the engine (s) Each step in the process makes these look a little more like the real deal.

I LOVE these cover from our friend schnauzer but the center holes are too small. I opened these up and on these particular cars I have decided to go with an insert made of aluminum to isolate the center nut. Some perspective.....

The gearboxes have been SCREWED on and are completely removable if need be. You can see the brass heat trays at the rear which help direct heat away from the unit itself. The paint is a little glossier than I would like but that will dull through handling. this shot was BEFORE the placement of the heat shielding. Starting to resemble a proper back half now......

You can see in the foreground the rear end has a shifting linkage going in and will be completed once the two halves of the car are joined. Before the linkages were attached. I LOVE aero wheels!!

Replacing the hot and cold side funnels with something a little more realistic. Pretty big difference in my eyes....worth the time to do it.

John I took a drill.......bored an approximately same size diameter hole into the table ....went down about an eight inch and then slid the aluminum tubing into that hole......then with a rounded tip mandrel....just tapped on it ...kinda hard until it flared it out.

Here you can see the steering rack and tie rod ends. Thanks to some new tap and die tools I can now thread them in stead of bond them.

Great job! May I suggest before it's too late, a pair of things. Or three: -Attaching points of front upper wishbones should be lowered, kinda 2 or 3mm. Taht'd make the unacurate Monogram chassis a bit better, way better I'd say. -If you fill the rectangular recess on the base of roll hoop it'll also be more accurate. -These Monogram Lolas improve a lot if you lower a bit the curved shape just besides driver's head. See the pics... It's easy, you have to thin a bit the height of the winwshied in that area. The profiles of the car "thanks" it a lot ;-) Great job again.

Thanks! though nothing beats the measuring tape... provided they let you take measures. On second thought, what I said (about cockpit)applies more to the '89 car, but anyway there's a consensus the Monograms are too bulky even for 1/24. I think this tricks help o reduce that impression. As for front suspension, it's a must. The reference of windshield and how the push-rod holes stand up above the wishbones is quite revealing. Keep going!!

Man, talk about setting the bar high for this kit! Simply spectacular. I have a signed print of Jim Crawford's car hanging in my office. It was a pleasure to meet him back at a Buick event in what was then Buick City in Flint many years ago. He was fun to watch.
