A while back I started the planning stage on the March Alfa Romeo 89CE prototype in 1/25th scale using the AMT March 88C kit. I had purchased a 1/43rd scale kit years ago as part of my research and to help me get the wings scaled correctly. I had originally planned on using a set of rescaled road wings from a 1/24th scale Monogram March 88C kit. After seeing Michael’s recently completed Lola with road wings, I started to compare what he had done with what I needed for my build. After just a few minutes of study I decided that it would be much easier to just start with a set of Michael’s road wings. That means I can get on with the updates needed for the rest of the car. The push rod front suspension instead of the old pull rod. Those parts I plan to get from a 1987 Lola. Then I’ll get on to the engine cover. I’m not going to try to replicate the engine (it would be a lot easier that the earlier Ferrari engine that the Alfa was based on) so this one will be just a curb side. It will take me a little while to get into the meat of this one as my model room is in the process of being put back together. We just re-carpeted the entire house and repainted the upstairs. We basically had to move out and now we’re moving back in. Guess what room has the lowest priority. A man has got to know his limitations. So here is what I have so far in graphic form. More to come soon I hope! Paul Erlendson

Very cool project. Are you using AutoCad to measure or are you creating parts in 3D?

I forgot all about this car.
Looks like you have it totally figured out!
BTW I think the modeling room should be the highest priority!!!!!!

any updates on that Antares Eagle from a while back? You must be thinking of someone else. I'm not working on a model of that car. Very cool project. Are you using AutoCad to measure or are you creating parts in 3D? Jordan I'm just using AutoCAD for plan use. I won't be doing anything in 3D or creating parts. I would love if someone did the proper wheels for the later Marches. I certainly would be a customer. Calvin, even if I did get my model room done before a few other things I still won't have time to work in there. Got to get the whole house in order first. Paul Erlendson

Ok, back to it. Finally got moved back into my model room and had a little time today. After receiving Michael’s update kit for the March 86C, I decided that I could make the undertray addition work for my March Alfa. Michael was kind enough to set me up with an order directly from Shapeways for just the undertray piece. The opening of the March 88C floor is bigger than the 86C floor, so if first laid in some Evergreen strip. Once the glue had dried, I got everything sanded down. I haven’t tried to glue the Shapeways material together before today and wondered if Tamiya plastic cement would work. I gave it a try and it did seem to hold the piece to the plastic floor, but there were too many gaps for me to get a good seal. Remember, this piece was designed for the 86C. So, I got out my gap filling super glue and lay down a nice fillet. I’m sure I’ll have a lot of sanding to do, but I think that this addition will be worth it. Nice work, I can already see it looking like one piece with some shaping.

Before I start sawing, I thought that I would make sure that everyone agrees with me concerning the floor. I believe that to replicate a 88C/89CE undertray correctly, I should cut the piece that I added so it is flush with the end of the floor. Anyone think that I'm wrong in that assumption?

Hard to find proof online of what the floor looked like. I do not have the 500 Yearbook or Men & Machines book from this year handy, so someone here with those might be able to help. Otherwise, it might be up to your artistic interpretation. I found an interesting picture of the car, the rear of the engine cover has an extension in the middle. Jordan

I’ve been doing some work on another red project as of late, and it got me thinking of the March Alfa 89CE. This site has been updated since I first started this thread. I thought a few of you might like some interesting reading. 8w.forix.com/march90ca-aftermath.htmlPaul Erlendson
