I've got the Strada sports Gil De Ferran 1998 Valvoline and 2000 M@r1b0r0 sets and plan to start them here shortly. I hate to ask, but does anyone have any up close shots of these cars? The Reynards each had a unique touch to them and I want to capture them if I can.
I appreciate your help!
Also as an aside, my soon-to-be mother-in-law works for the corporate headquarters of Valvoline in Lexington, KY and the drivers on occasion come there for events. Gil De Ferran came to Lexington when he had the Valvoline sponsorship and met the employees, according to her he was the one of the nicest, most polite men she's ever met.
I always liked him, but after she said that I became a bigger fan of him.

I'm sure our very own Reynard Guru knows of some! These aren't big pics but whenever I need to look at some late 90' early 00's CART I go here. www.champcar.com/gallery/index.html

champcar.com is one of the best. He is also on Flikr now which sometimes has a few more pictures per race but he does not allow downloads (you can printscreen though). Google Image searches have links to most of the other good photo sites. Jerry, are you looking to recreate certain races with these cars? I think Walker ran fairly stock Reynards, but I haven't researched it lately. They ran a few cameras at various races which would be cool to recreate. If you are going for accuracy, Walker Racing ran OZ wheels which only come in the Visteon kit (should be unchromed) or the Target kit (chromed). Both of those are 1998 bodies so you are good there, too. Walker Racing did a straight cut back from the pop off valve opening on the shark fin which was pretty unique (seen here). The 2000 Penskes did occasionally appear stock, but they did run a lot of races with custom bodywork. Penske ran chromed BBS rims from like 1994 until they left CART after 2001 (but only chromed OZ rims in IRL competition?). To my eye, the 1998 kit is closer to the 2000 Penske the the 1999 bodywork kits. The Shell or Castrol kits have 1998 bodywork with unchromed BBS wheels. The only Revell release with the 1998 body and chromed BBS rims is the "Forsythe" (subbing for Player's) Canadian release which gets a little pricey since Greg Moore is on the box. If you have a variety of Reynard kits and do not want to chrome the rims from a Shell/Castrol kit yourself, you can always steal chromed BBS rims from a 1999 body kit (Motorola, Miller Lite, Pioneer). Give me some more details and I might be able to help out some more. Jordan

As far as I remember Penske did some tweaking on their Reynards. They did, Calvin. As mentioned, the sidepods were different from a stock Reynard 2KI plus they did run custom flugelhorn/rear tire kickups but just on the ovals. My references reminded me that the Penskes in 2000 at road course and street course races ran kickups like the 1998 kits included. So, those would look more stock straight from the box. I think a lot of the other touches Penske Cars did were more subtle in 2000. 2001 was another story... lol Additionally, there are a few relatively simple edits that can be done to the chassis floor piece to make the 1998 kit look more like a 2000 Reynard. If you do a road course car for 2000, the 1999 kit's road course front wing is closer in shape straight out of the box. The front wing endplates from 2000 stick out as different. They were no longer entirely vertical like 98/99 but had a significant flare of the bottom rear of the end plate. That could be more of a challenge to recreate.... but could be done with 4 or 5 pieces of styrene and/or brass. It all depends on how deep you want to go, Jerry. Ultimately, they are your builds. You pay for them and do the work, so you can build them how you want. Lots of guys build 2000 and later cars with stock 1998/1999 bodies and they look fine. But if you want to detail them more in depth, we will gladly help you as best we can to find the right information, parts, etc. Jordan

I'd like to detail it as much as I can, so any advice and help you can give me will be truly appreciated. These will both be WIPs.
For the Valvoline car I'd like to do a road course version of the car and after some consideration I'd like to make it, if possible, the car that ran Mid-Ohio (my favorite road course).
For the 2000 M@r1b0r0 car I'd like to do the speedway version of the car that broke the record at Fontana. I have a few photos of it but I could use some more if possible!
Once again I appreciate the help! You guys are the best.

1998 GdF @ Mid-Ohio Looks like this one is practice as the others all show the roll hoop camera. Jordan

My favorite GdF commercial. As Robin Miller (?) once pointed out, it was the best product placement ad of FedEx (then series sponsor) and it was in a Honda commercial!

That sure should get you started. Jerry. Pretty sure the #3 car in the photos is HCN, but the cars should be the same.
