I just received a couple of 3D 2015 Honda's through Shapeway. They were designed by Mike but I'm not sure who actually printed them. What do you guys think about these? They look fairly good to me but I do have a couple of questions. On the rear fin, there appears to be a notch on the upper part. Should that be there. Also there is an opening behind the side fins? It has a solid bottom and that is making it very difficult. Once nice thing it has accurate mirrors. Either I have to figure out how to cut into the bottom of the car or start cutting into the greenlight metal car?

No.on the engine cover there is a notch. I think it should be straight across.

All I know is when sanding the 1:18th scale bumpers, that took some time. Can't even imagine trying to do it with a 1:64th!

Wow, that came out better than I ever expected. Is this something you can use? Perhaps cutting away parts you need and putting them on an existing chassis?
If this works for you, I'm thrilled!!!
If one of the 3D print guru's wanted to take a look at this, and try adjusting (removing the bottom, making it more "hollow", etc) I'll gladly send the files.
Very cool, thanks for experimenting!

I think its going to work. Right now, I'm using the 3D car and making a chassis fit to it. If it was h Iollowed out,I would consider doing the other way. Overall, I'm pleased with it but I haven't started the painting process yet. It's a shame that the body isn't smoother but the cost of this is too much. I will keep you posted as I work on this.

It would be less expensive if it were more hollow, thus using less material.

I don't think they'll do that. Technically, it's my model, and they can't really modify it. Hope it works out for you though.

I could remove the underwing, but that's about all that would help. When I get some time, I'll play around with it.

No problem. I can remove the underside. I ordered 10 more cars so I will make it work.

I will contact them and let you know. Also is it possible to just do the engine side and the side pods, etc? Then maybe I could attached those parts to a Greenlight car?

yeah, we could try it that way, but my models really aren't made for 3D printing. I just use flat polygons without any real "thickness" and that causes issues. I was shocked the 1:64 model you bought actually turned out. I uploaded a test of the engine cover and sidepods but it looks horrific and has wall thickness issues, plus it automatically adds a "base" surface that would cause you issues.
I did a quick test upload of just the engine cover and sidepods and it's a disaster. Sorry man.

Thanks for trying. Are you still going to do one without the underwing? I put a hold on my order.
