Hey everyone im not sure if anyone has had this happen before or not but the paint on one side of my car crinkled when it dried. Is it possible to try and sand it smooth then reapply or do I need to totally strip the car and start over? Underneath the tape is a gloss yellow base coat so id hate to ruin it but I don't want to start this car over either. Any feedback you could offer would be appreciated!

What kind of paint is the yellow? What kind is the silver?
Sounds like you mixed Lacquer and Enamel which is a no-no.

Honestly, that may be what happened. I don't have the yellow anymore but I think one was a lacquer and the other was an enamel. Is it salvageable or is it time to strip and begin again?

Probably going to need to strip.

Yeah its going to have to be stripped...the damage to the yellow has already been done.
You can spray enamels over lacquer paint jobs but never lacquer over enamel. Its best to just never mix different types of paint or try to avoid mixing brands as well.
and to always make sure to use a good self-etching primer on all diecast.

Yes, You need to strip, wash it really good, than prime and than paint.

Stripping is your best bet. like everyone said. We all have our favorite paints, and methods, but like Calvin said, it's safest to stick with one brand, and one type for the entire system. Sorry about your problem, but we all have had paint disasters, at one time or another.
