Yes, I'm astonished that I'm trying to do this on the coffee table, but... I'll focus on Jack's '70 Monaco car as My heart went out to him that day... So, now that I've started I have the usual Heller problem...what tires to use? Unlike the restored cars using slicks Jack's car ran with treaded Goodyears. Any suggestions for me?? I hate Heller crappy tires. Maybe some of those tires from Corner 5 Hobbies? Patrick

Wow your building out of the box! Nothing wrong with that IMO....sometimes you have to do something straight forward.

Out of the box? Patrick, every build I've ever seen of yours required "Out of the Box" thinking, but this is different. Are you sure you're up to it? You might have to look at instructions!
I'm sure it will turn out great!

Patrick, would tires out of one of the Fujimi LeMans cars be close? Ferrari 330P3/4 or Porsche 917? GT40 is probably too small. Paul Erlendson

The 330 tires are the same as in the GT40. My "copies" of the Fujimi 917 tires are tweaked to fit the smaller diameter F1 wheels. Kevin K F5000 tires would be great too but they're slicks.

Patrick, I recommend using the Model Factory Hiro 1970s Prototype tires. I have this kit and some of the other Heller F1 and prototype kits in my "someday" stash, and although they may not be 100% accurate for any of these kits, the MFH tires are a massive improvement over the horrendous Heller tires. BNA Model World currently has 2 sets of them in stock for a really good price ( www.bnamodelworld.com/model-factory-hiro/mfh-p906). I bought some sets of these tires from BNA several years ago, and the standard shipping from Australia to the USA was surprisingly reasonable cost and time. I was also lucky to have a resin-casting friend who recently made me some resin copies of these tires, so I have enough to cover the kits I have. If you'd like me to post some photos showing both the MFH and the kit tires for comparison, let me know and I'll work on it tonight after work. Cameron

Cameron Patrick, if you would like a set I have one you are welcome to. I ordered it with some other things from BMA because they looked cool, but they would not work on the model for which I ordered them. They really are nice. Let me know, Mark J

Yes, the MFH tires are the way to go. I put a set of them on the F5000 McLaren M10 that I made. Mark, your kindness is showing again. I'd be honored to accept. PM me and we'll talk. I'll also follow up on other resources. Corner 5? I've also been trying to get a definitive answer on the color of Jack's BT33. I may settle for a lacquer from Testors, Mopar Big Bad Blue over a grey primer for the main body color. We'll see with some test shots tomorrow. Patrick

"THIS WAY UP" made BT33 in 1/43 scale and instructions sheet gives a mix of acrylic Tamiya paint 8 parts X-2 white+ 5 parts X-4 blue + 2 parts X-8 Yellow
You could try or use with similar paint I just did test (because I have also a Heller kit in my future projets) but with XF matt blue. For me mixing is too greenish and I think increase the ratio of blue I plan to use also the same basic color with airbrush but in lacquer paints(Mr Color or decanted Tamiya TS spray)
(again sorry for my english skill)

Olo, The color of Jack's cars seem to change from a "hunter green", a medium dark green to the turquoise body. I've been told that they are the same color only different appearing because of the types of film used (no digital then!). Perhaps, but I will paint mine with a rattle can, "Montana" brand spray paint called...Heaven (the turquoise)! What's your idea on this subject?

Finished! I'll never forget the day, 47 years ago, watching (thanks to ABC/WWofS) the 1970 Monaco GP as Sir Jack was leading the race, with Rindt quickly making up time, easily sitting up for the last turn and...you know the rest. My heart quickly went out to this veteran driver, who was 3 times World Champion, make a mistake and it cost him so dearly. I couldn't do that car which represented this man's life work. Philosophy time over. Back to building! Patrick

But you reminded me that the book "Bobby Rahal: The Graceful Champion" by Gordon Kirby includes a photo the teenage Bobby took of Brabham nosed into the haybales right in front of Bobby and his family, who were on a European vacation and were watching the race right there at the Gasworks hairpin!
I have dreams of using this BT-33 kit and Heller's Lotus 49B to make a diorama of that scene! I have both kits in my stash. Could probably use the Jack Brabham figure from Immense Miniatures for extra realism.

Patrick,
Technically being new here (once again), when I found your build of Sir Black Jack's BT33, I just couldn't resist reading through it. Just a fantastic build of a most difficult Heller kit. And then I watched the video of the race. To me Sir Jack Brabham will always be a World Champion of the highest order.
