it's amazing the time and money these guys spent on cars that never came to fruition or just didn't go fast enough. duane

I guess that it is all relative but I suspect that their task was easier and cheaper. Foyt did do more than pound on his cars with a hammer. I do appreciate an era where car builders and mechanics still had a major role. I remember at the time that several car owners would not let Grant King near their cars for fear that their designs would end up with him which they usually did anyway. There were some great copiers at the Speedway as they looked for ways to go fast and give themselves an edge. I wonder what would happen if IndyCar let the teams fiddle with the aero kits. It seems that NASCAR (sorry for that) has finally begun to listen to their drivers in terms of what changes, i.e. spoilers and downforce, would make their racing better and more competitive. I think they have been watching our races. Jim

You also have to consider that even last place probably paid more then a whole season of racing elsewhere.

Very cool stuff. A must have as I am a diehard Foyt fan.
What is that interesting dark one in the background?

The dark one in the background is the 70 Mongoose master, I have been going over it and doing a little tweaking to it.

I thought the 1972 Coyote was cool. I think Foyt could have sat on the pole as the first day of tiemtrials it rained and opened up late in the day. He went out very late but the engine blew. It then rained again and that was that. I also remember this car did not start on the command and much frantic work went on before it fired and off went AJ to join the field on the formation lap.
It was finished out very nice, almost like a show car. It had a lot of gold pin stripping on it. If I remember correctly Foyt was injured during the season and missed several races. (broken arm at Springfield?) so it never got developed all that well.
I saw Lee Brayton crash it.
Then my friend restored the car a couple of years ago and did an OUTSTANDING job. The entire tub is polished to a mirror finish. Panitergeek Paint Works is his company.
