Hey Guys,
Anyone interested in making the Rahal Hogan RH-001 1992 1993 Indycar car in 1/18. I wanted to know if we can make them in both the SW and RC versions of Bobby Rahal and Mike Groff. Bobby had the Black and Gold and Mike had the Gold with Black.
I say we try to get Ralph Simpson -Senna65- to make a prototype and the we or myself can try to get the Chassis Machined and the Suspension Wheels and Tires Cast.
I know this is a BIG undertaking, but I think it will be well worth it when we have one sitting on our shelves.
Lets all let Senna65 know and pay him for his work and we csn takit from there.
Thanks Everyone. Happy 4th of July !!!
Robby

that car was a bit of a dog, it was a truesports car in 1992 driven by Scott Pruett, and then had a mediocre start to 1993, before the infamous DNQ at Indy that year. Then Rahal used '93 Lola's for the remainder of the year. Odd choice for a custom, good luck to you.

Anything can be done if the money is there.

Let's break this down.....
If someone were to start sculpting out 1/18 HR001 and work on it non stop it would take about 1 month.
Then just make a mold of a 1/18 body would take a good $200 worth of rubber. +$70 tire molds +$50 in wing and suspension molds
Then hiring someone to machine parts? Would be about $50 an hr(?)
The resin cost to cast about 10 cars would be like $300
Then add in a good $200 for other un seen expenses.
So after it was all said done it would take. more than two months to make 10 cars with a total rough investment of maybe $1000.
And $1000 is most likely a low guess? To do 10 cars in 2 months knocking youself out.

I think you are being conservative, Calvin. My guess is more like 3K for 10 kits to break even. When Gary, and I did the Eagle project, I promised to by a minimum of 20 kits. Are you willing to make that kind of commitment Robby?

Both of you are omitting the time (IMO worth at least $100/hr) to sculpt the body, since you are basically hiring someone to create it and turn it over. It's gotta be worth their while.

That's my point, Michael. Even using my number, which is I'm sure is low, you are looking at a $300.00 kit, based on 10 kits. I don't think that's realistic, but if he has the money, and thinks it's a winner, there is one sure way to find out. I sold 40 Eagle kits, and pretty much broke even, and I'm fine with that. Gary made some money, which is what he is in business for. If he thinks there is enough demand for that kit, and is willing to put up the money, he should go for it.

If your estimate is up to $300 per car, you're in the territory where 3D printing becomes a "reasonable" option, apart from cost per hour to create 3D model.

LOL! I kinda figured my $1000 guess would be considered very low! Steven it would prolly cost well over $1,000 to print a 1/18 body with FUD.....I dont have the number crunching mind to really know for sure it would be in the territory? and yes Terry that is one big advantage of 1/64....BTW I'm still fiddling with your 1/64 bumpers.....

I know one thing is some scratch building project take some serious dedication to complete especially when its a car that is not a total passion. Plus there is always a lot of down time waiting for putty to dry.....

Michael ! If I were to commit to having these kits made, would you be willing to make both sets of decals for these cars. BTW ! Why dont we do the 1992 Galmer kit that I mentioned earlier. Does anyone here know Bobby Rahal or someone at Rahal Racing where we can possibly get the Drawings for the RH-001 ? Who here would be willing to make the cars Then we should get Pre-paid Non-refundable payments in full and do these cars. What a Great addition these cars would make to any collection. I'll be in touch and try to get ahold of Rahal Racing for the Drawings. Hope to hear from you guys soon. Thank you

is it just me, or does this guy just come here, ask for the world, and then never actually follow through when people offer to help?
