Looks like you're off to a good start. You are correct about the decal sheets being a challenge. When complete, there's over 120 that need to be applied. I built the Zanardi version of this kit about 8 years ago and decal sheet #2 was a royal pain in the ***. It was almost like working with wax paper. I finally ended up using Tamiya lemon yellow for the front and rear wings. Lots of patience and test-fitting needed to get everything to align correctly. Look forward to watching your progress Tom T.

Hey G, nice start! Don't let the decals intimidate you! Also, try pre-assembling the cockpit and see if it will fit into the tub from underneath, you might be able to glue those halves together and still get it in. Don't be afraid to trim the opening a little wherever it won't show. I do this on most of my modern F-1 and Indy builds and it usually is doable. Keep us posted on your progress, please!

Brian Thanks Brian, The cockpit halves don't really concern me too much. The seat will go in after they are joined unlike the Tyrrell 020 I built last year. G

Hi G,
Really nice start on that one!
I got that kit to do Mika's car since he has been one of my favorite *modern era* F-1 drivers, and want to do it before too long.

Looking great! Mind if I ask what your technique is for doing the raised badging on the head covers?

Looking great! Mind if I ask what your technique is for doing the raised badging on the head covers? Thank you. After prepping the parts, in this case the rocker covers, I sprayed them with Floquil Bright Silver but any base color would work I suppose. After they were dry I sprayed them Krylon Semi Flat Black (one of if not my favorite black paint). Once that was dry I went over the lettering and bolt detail with a sanding stick. Light pressure was all it took to remove the black and expose the silver underneath. Touch up if neccessary and voila. GI will post more photos in the next couple of days.

Do you think a quick shot of clear between color and black might save the need to touch up sand throughs?

This is great work and a great help to me. I an working on a 1/24 Tamiya 107B, yes a 1/24. It's a Tamtech body that I'n bashing onto a Gunze Lotus chassis. Your detail shots make this conversion all too easy. Keep going on this excellent job!

I'm enjoying watching your progress on this build. Your burnt chrome treatment on your headers is very realistic. Thanks for posting!! Tom T.

Thank you kind sir. It turns out Cracker Jacks aren't the only things with a prize inside. Get a pack of smokes, throw the worthless cancer sticks away and you're left with a seemingly empty box. Not so. There is a sheet of nifty foil paper lining the box. There you have it. The texture and color seem to vary by brand so shop around.
G
I just pick up the empty packs when I find them in the street.

Otherwise known as, "and then the bottom dropped out". The kit decals were the downfall of this kit. They just would not adhere and decal solvent only worsened things. Luckily I started with the front wing and not the body. I had to reprime and paint those pieces once I stripped the decals off but it could have been worse I guess. I wasn't going to spend 22 dollars plus shipping on the Studio 27 decals either so white it will be. G
