Hi one and all,
I've put aside the WIP on the 1/20 Fujimi 126C2 waiting to muster as many AM sets as possible and turned my attention on a 1/12 Revell/Protar I had bought off eBay last week.I've got a few beautiful 1/12 MFH F1 Ferraris but before tackling one I have decided to cut my teeth on this one.I've started with the engine and even if the complete block, consisting of engine and transmission, is made by less than 10 pieces it took me several hours to make all parts fit!Revell's plastic is soft but appalling (some say they used "recycled" styrene!),and the molds, apart from being very old, were badly misaligned and I had to scrape off mold lines and strange "pips" on the surface of some parts!
This is the only game in town when it comes to styrene 1/12 126s,it's not an easy build, not as detailed as a Tamiya but once built it looks absolutely gorgeous!
I want to build a "curbside" 126C2,detailing only the areas that will be visible but I'm also toying with the idea of super-detailing it using the MAGNIFICENT MFH 126C2 as reference, casting in resin a few parts that in the Revel kit are rather poor,.i.e. 70% of them!
I've also discovered this website, full of yummy goodies for the large-scale F1 modeller;:
www.rbmotion.com/index.php?route=common/home
Anyway, here's my work so far;the assembled engine before and after a nice coat of Alclad black primer. In its original state it looks very toy-like in that terrible silver-gray plastic, but once painted black it starts looking like a very detailed and pleasing little engine.
All "bolts" will be replaced with styrene or metal ones and, after a good dose of TLC to get rid of the many unavoidable small yet annoying misalignments,it will be ready for a second coat of black primer followed by the right metallic shades!
Thank you for loking
Cheers
Manu
