If you can get your hands on one, get the 1989 Carl Hungness Indy 500 Yearbook. Actually, if you can find any of these yearbooks, get them. They are fantastic sources for pictures of the cars.

RussD Hi Russ, Thanks for the pointer on the Hungness books. Unfortunately, I have none of the Indy yearbooks. I am hoping someone has a picture somewhere that they can post so that I will at least know what the car looks like. ;D Mongo

I think the last 2 might be from 88. I'm not sure but the engine layout on the cars with the silver roll bar look to be Chevy vs Ford on the 2 first pictures.

Thanks, Bill! I wonder what the large orange panels are for? I know Michael did them, but they don't show up on the pictures. (??) And the orange stripes on the decal is only one stripe and not the triple. (??)
The large panels look like they would be for the cockpit area. I really don't have reference for that period of INDY cars, and even though A.J. is my *second* favorite driver (Fireball Roberts is my first! LOL!!) I have very little info regarding his Indy rides. Now I CAN cover his NASCAR rides from '64 to '74 really well. ;D
Thanks, again! Mongo

The orange stripe may be the paint scheme from the 1989 Indy 500. One thing to note about this decal sheet. I think that Mike may have used an 88 chassis for the basis of these decals. That may be a problem if you are using one of the pseudo 1989 AMT kits. One of the big differences between the 1988 and 1989 AMT kits is the shape and placement of the air foils/ramps on the sides of the sidepods. The ramps in the 1989 kits have a smaller incline and go only half way up the sidepod as opposed to the 1988 kits that have ramps that curve back to front and from undertray to top of sidepod. The shape of these ramps in the 89 kits are actually correct for an 89 Lola. The decal may be designed for the larger surface area of the 88 Lola. I wish I had a good picture of this, It would be much easier to just show the difference with a side by side pix. RussD

Thanks, Russ. I can see the orange on the bottom edge in the picture, so I understand what you are saying. I will be on the lookout for a picture of the car at the Indy 500. Maybe Michael will weigh back in on this one. (??)

Mongo,
I took a look at my copy of the Hungness 1989 Yearbook. It appears from the qualifying picture that the single orange stripe on the sides of the cockpit/engine cover should be a triple. I can't find a reference that has a solid orange stripe. I'm going on vacation next week, but if you can wait till I get back I'll try to get a scan of the picture in the yearbook and post it for you.

I had to post this, I guess my Foyt Tyco is wrong with only two stripes! I picked it up at a toy show about 12 yers ago. Black plastic, not painted and has stick on decals, like Tyco produced it, but haven't seen any since. Any ideas were it came from? Dave
