Calvin, you asked for it. Here is the beginning of my Chaparral 2K WIP. Might not be updated too soon after this, but it's a start!

Awesome! I kinda figured you would have a post appear tonight! I'll prolly be doing the same as you - start a WIP but It'll be a little bit before I can really get to it as I have so much going on with other model and resin production right now that I wouldn't be able to focus the 100% attention that I would like towards it. It will be interesting for people to watch our different building techniques and styles. My WIP will be a combination of the build and endless info about the car, the team, the years it ran....I'm going to build the 1980 Indy 500 Winner....what year are you building?...I see you posted a picture of the 1981 car.

I'll probably build 1980. Would you happen to know if there are any subtleties for the California 500 livery of that year? I was at that race and it has some special meaning to me for other reasons too, so I'd like to do that version, if there's anything unique about it.

I'll check all my books and photos and tell you for sure on the decal layout but when it comes to bodywork it should be the same as the Indy 500 body beside the Cal 500 version had sliding skirts and the indy 500 winner did not (Just fixed skirts - Indy and Pocono were the only races were sliding skirts were not allowed)

I just noticed what I assume are brake cooling ducts in the photo. I don't recall seeing them before, did they run these at Indy? I can't imagine they did, but I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination. I have this kit but never got the front uprights, I'll have to fudge something together for those.

The photo above that shows the front brake ducts appears to have been taken coming out of the second corner at Phoenix. If that's correct, they may have run those ducts on that track (and other "short" tracks like Milwaukee)but not at Indy. You use more brakes on the mile tracks than you would at the longer tracks like Indy and Michigan.

Looks like Art has at least 3 projects going right now. Maybe he only has enough of his Magic dust for 2. I'm sure he will stock up, and blow us away on this one pretty soon.

I know Art's busy, he always is, but his WIPs are just so darn good and I have this kit so I'm looking forward to watching this.

My problem, John, is when I see anything that Art builds, I have an urge to take a hammer to my builds. Several guys on this board really give me a complex, but I still have fun.

I'm sure when Art is in the mood he will work with it. Art is an incredible builder. The ideas he comes up with are just mind blowing. You know he comfortable with his skill as he is more worried about inspiring me with it! I can't wait for the day this WIP starts up! Becuase I love to go on with a bunch random blaw blaw blaw info about 2k's Honestly I don't worry about who does a better job....I don't have anything to prove. I would rather prove that we can have a good time.

You know you've made it as a model builder when people knock on your WIP thread door wondering about it.

Calvin, I don't recall ever seeing a 2K done by you. Have you built one? Besides the 1:1 you were working on?

Hey guys! Craig is right- I have quite a few things going on. I started three resin kits at the same time in an attempt to do all the cleanup at the same time. I started the Lola T332, this one, and an Edsel Model 40 Speedster, and I still have the midget waiting in the wings. I've been spending most of my model time on the F5000 car, but I actually did do a little on this a while ago. I also did a lot of thinking on it as to how I want to do the under tray and the back detail. It's going to be pretty cool, I think. I also got the paint and decals from Scale Finishes and Indycals, respectively, so once I turn my attention to it, I have all I need to roll fast.
Thanks for the compliments, too. I was trying to inspire Calvin, but you guys are inspiring me!

Calvin, I don't recall ever seeing a 2K done by you. Have you built one? Besides the 1:1 you were working on? I built one before joining this forum in the spring of 2009 and then tore it all back apart to where its sits as of today.....I'm truly passionate about the Chaparral 2k

I've had the kit for years but I couldn't figure out what to do with the back and under tray. I can't wait to see what Art comes up with.

Art, whatever happened to this? Everything else! It just got too many things pushed in front of it in line. Actually, it’s been stalking me lately. It might get some love sooner rather than later.

How did I miss this? Art please tell us that this will be back on the bench soon! I also have this kit and would love to see the Laski touch on one of my favorite Indy cars.

Just a quick question about the 2K. Does it have some sort of seat insert? No kit I've ever seen of it in any scale has a seat. Knowing Jim Hall, maybe it didn't have one!

Thanks, Art! More info than I had. Looks like fiberglass side panels and some stick-on foam strips on the bottom of the tub.
