I just wanted to start a WIP on this car! Becuase I really love this car and when Michael P. did the decals for it I was ecstatic! I got this from Kevin K. a few years ago......and being for some reason fascinated with the 1978 Citicorp USAC championship trial ......its a must have! The big Red, Yellow and Black Eagle scheme is totally one of a kind! [bobbyunserimitation] and one of the best drivers drove it honey! [/bobbyunserimitation] Since my favorite part of model building is paint and decal work this is a dream for yours truly! HUGE A$$ decals are what I live for! oh BTW you can get the Indycals sheet HERE! www.indycals.net/decals/indy/78arcographite.html

To make things a little easier I decided to cut off the cam covers and I will glue them onto the body as you will never know they were not attached completely onto the engine block.....no matter what model it is, it would be very tricky to get the cam cover completely lined up with the body work.......plus resin kits have to cast thicker than what the real life car would be at scale. All model cars are way thicker than the true scale which always make fitting up other parts tricky. also I usually like to make my models as structurally sound as possible so I took the extra step of drilling out the ends of the white metal upper control arms and CA gluing in brass pins. On every resin kit I usually test fit most of the parts first before painting anything and make sure everything lines right up so there won't be any surprises when I go to glue them on for good after the paint job.

Calvin, thank you for all and any tips you include for building resin kits. I have several but have yet to build any so this is a valuable learning tool for me.
I'm currently working (at my usual glacial pace) on Parnelli's Old Calhoun using your upgrade nose & windscreen (but haven't gotten that far yet), I also have Rick's Chaparral 2K kit which I have only done a bit of cleaning up the castings so far. And just last week at our club meeting I bought your Penske PC18 transkit from a friend (he knew I wanted it even more than he did and he may buy another depending on how I do with this one, or I'll buy it for him...).
So any resin kit building tips you give are much appreciated!

Thanks I enjoy doing WIP's as knowledge is worthless unless it's shared.

I test fit things too and I still end up with all sorts of surprises when it's time for final assembly

There are some pictures of the real car without the bodywork ? I'd like to see the chassis and monocoque. Alex

The 1978 USAC Indycar season was a very controversial year.....if people think these days are doomed, think again....1978 was really messed up! But it's one of my favorite seasons, just because of the cars, the tracks, the schedule and the politics.
