Hi everyone. After trying to get a Jorgensen body to build the 1990 car, and not finding one, I decided to try to do a conversion of one. Alter Renner said on another post, that he had used an AMT Lola 8900 kit to do one. I had one of these kits in my stash, so I decided to give it a try, so here goes. After studying the Lola kit, from the radiator tubs back, it looked feasible, but from there forward, it was all wrong. The Lola had the wrong shape to the nose and even worse was the windshield placement. To me, the only solution to this was to replace the whole nose section from the radiator tubs forward, so I got my razor saw out and whacked it off. Now I had to come up with a nose that looked close and with a windscreen placement that I could live with. I found an extra March 89C in my extra parts box that I thought I might could use.[img src=" i473.photobucket.com/albums/rr95/kizzie11/DSC01967.jpg" src="http:// [img src=" i473.photobucket.com/albums/rr95/kizzie11/DSC01969.jpg" src="http:// " alt=" "] " alt=" "] More to follow.

I split the nose from the join line to the nose tip and removed a pie shaped piece so that the new nose piece could be adjusted to fit up to the fuselage part easier and to allow the part where the windscreen would fit to line up better. See the photo above. Next was to fill in all of those radiator vents on the tub upper surfaces and fill them with Miliput. I also used this putty to fill in the bottom of the new nose piece and to fair in the engine cover extension and to elongate the nose piece.

Wow! That's quite brave and effective. Maybe this work might inspire you: mb2501.proboards.com/thread/6235/lola-t90-t91-all-purposeThough you don't seem to need it!!! Of anythimg I'd see that at hindsight I see too much a long cockpit though it all dependes on where and how you'll put the windhield. Nice job!

Ditto on the nose: it was way too wrong! Used an extra Reynard nose that was sharper, cut it to fit the Lola, and spend a few hours sanding it to match the Lola body shape! You got it! --Frank

Thanks for the comments. In the next to last photo above, you can see where I added the half round fairings to the tops of the radiator housings. I don't know what they were there for, but they were there. I also trimmed up the engine/transaxle assembly so it could be removed or re-inserted for fitting up etc. The next few photos were of filling, sanding etc. A couple with basic colors etc.[img src=" i473.photobucket.com/albums/rr95/kizzie11/DSC01980.jpg" src="http:// [img src=" i473.photobucket.com/albums/rr95/kizzie11/DSC02024.jpg" src="http://" alt=" "][ /URL]" alt=" "]

This turned out well, Howard, and should be a nice addition to your collection. You showed some real creativity and skill pulling this off. Good on you. Jim

It's really, really, really nice. Though I gota say that windshield is unfortunately unaccurate. It's a shame because it does not match the rest of the job and spoils part of the result. If you could replace it by something slimmer, and in the process lower a bit the cockpit sides that go just behind the undercut for the windshiedl, you'd have an almost 100% perfect replica. That said, all the rets, the coming togetehr of it all, paint, decals, matching with mech parts, all really good!

I think you are right about the windshield. Maybe I can still do something with it. Thanks. H.W.

Great job on the whole car and nice save on the windshield. The windshield begs a question. I'm finishing Calvin's 89 winner and was wondering how to fasten the mirrors to the windshield. What type of adhesive did you use? Thanks.

Hi John, I used a .020" drill bit to drill the mirror bases and the windshield in 2 places. I glued a length of .015" copper wire into the mirror bases with super glue and after it had cured I painted the mirrors and snipped the copper wire off close to the mirror base then glued them into the windshield holes with a small dab of Micro Kristal Kleer. The Kristal kleer dries without a residue film if used sparingly. It is surprisingly pretty strong. Hope this helps. H.W.

Much, much better!!! ANd the way you attached windshield and mirrors is interesting, thanks for the explanation. And kudos for bravery kind of lowering the cockpit sides once painted and all. I always think it's better to have a small local paint issue (although I don't notice it) than a big mistake so much visible. I don't understand people that won't modify once finished, even if feasible. Brave again and fair reward. Nice one!!
