Looking nice Calvin. I also have this kit, but might have to do my favorite version of the BT46 line first. The BT46 Surface Cooler. One of my real "Holy Grails".

I couldn't help myself (I'm sure I'll get in trouble from Craig for doing something fun) I worked on this today. Since last year I've learned that using a mix of Tamiya Flat black wash comes out too grainy......but since then I started using a Tamiya Smoke Wash and its a lot smoother. Which I've been trying to work with my overkill wash job and make it more pleasing - I also tried to wash down the bare aluminum.....I still need to clean it up but I does give it more of the realistic aluminum look IMO - I just need to work on the technique of applying it on.....thats the thing about aluminum tubs, its getting that real aluminum look about it.

Some former Alfa owners probably think that is just about right for oil leaks....
A very iconic Gordon Murray car with a great story. Great work on it so far, it will make a great edition to the shelf.

More stuff put on.... I've been having fun with this - its been a good change of pace from non-stop resin kit work.....I just needed a break or woulda went crazy.

I've been trying to figure out the best way of finding the center to drill out all the seat vent holes. Wish Fujimi had molded an indentation instead of a ring for each hole. Paul Erlendson

Find a piece of brass rod about .020" larger in diameter than the plastic circles in the seat and about 3/4" long. Drill one end the outside dia. of the circles. Drill through the inside dia. of the circles.
Place the end with the large hole on the circle and drill through with a drill bit the size of the inside of the circle.

Now I'm feeling guilty for not drilling out the holes in the seat.....but to be honest, I really didn't think about it.

Calvin, as you always love a good discussion on paint shades I thought that I would throw this one out here. What shade of red did you use on your BT46? I’ve always thought that the “Alfa” red was a little darker than the Rossa Corsa used on Ferraris of the same era. Best way of course would be to use Zero, but it’s become a huge pain to get the paint in the USA. I believe that someone here (maybe Michael or Patrick?)has stated that Testors Italian Red is a little different (darker?) that Tamiya. I’ve thought about using Testors over a light grey primer to make it look a little darker than my Ferraris. Thoughts? Paul Erlendson

Basically I use TS-8 Italian red over white primer and didn't really put much thought into it. I really have never looked into if Alfa red is any darker or not......and I need to look and test but I think Model master Italian red is darker slightly but like I said I need to look and compare for sure! as for Zero paint - I've used it once and I plan on never using it again - I thought I followed the instructions correctly for using it but as Craig knows pretty much everything goes over my head and I most likely screwed it up. So if there is a Lacquer rattle can that's close enough I will use it over any super duper special jar of paint from the UK.

Thanks for the color comparison that right there shows that the Brabham is possibly lighter.....if not the same.

I think they look very close. The cockpit surrounding is almost the same shade where the pictures connect and the top rear of the Ferrari side pod look the same as the Brabham side pod. I will probably use the same colour for both kuts.

Perhaps comparing photos for color accuracy isn't the best way to do it, but who, I repeat who, is going to contradict you? Go with what looks best to you and poo-poo all the nay sayers!

Absolutely right but in this case both cars is from the same picture. And getting the right colour would be impossible. It will change in different light conditions.

Being a mature gentleman (age, not personality) I very well remember these cars from attending the LBGP in the '70s. Not the fan car of course, but my impression was always that the Alfas were just a tad darker than the Ferraris.
Maybe they were just a bit grimy-er.
Of course I don't remember what happened 10 minutes ago so how good can that memory be?!? :-)
