Ok, I've started my build of the Revival 156. I'm gonna take Pauls advise and separate the nose and tail to get rid of the seams. I am also gonna take a hint from Bevita's build and just rescribe the body sides to replicate the tanks rather then try to modify the body. It's gonna be a long build, but here it is so far. The wheels look fabulous! A real b***h to put together though. Frame is ready for paint. I will have to paint this before assembly as the engine will not fit afterwards.

Well, I did it. I took a saw to the metal pre-painted chassis. My last post on this for awhile, as I won't get back to it until the weekend.

I purchased this kit twenty years ago, and I had in my mind to do exactly the same job as the one you are doing now...
Revival are strange kits, something of a high-tech kit, something of a diecast kit and something of a toy, but if you have one in your stock, you can get something quite nice... scribing and drilling the zamac alloy will be harder than the white metal, but still possible...
Enjoy, my friend!

Paint stripped from the body and waiting for the mods. Surprisingly, the paint was quite durable. Two applications of an automotive grade paint stripper and I still had to use a wire brush and manpower to get most the paint off. The chassis is also moving right along. Now the fun begins...

Work done on the upper body. I have a couple ghost seams to take care of and I can shoot some paint.

This is really looking good Mark. Did you lace the wheels yourself? They sure look good...

This is really looking good Mark. Did you lace the wheels yourself? They sure look good... No, they came that way. They come with a large metal ring around them and I just had to force them into the tires

On to the lower panel. The fuel tanks in the kit suppose to attach to the chassis, like so: But I'm gonna try to mount them to the inside of the panel. They are contoured to fit the chassis and will need a bit of work: Clamped them to the lower panel and gave them a bath in boiling water, I think the fit is much better!

I have finished the work on the lower pan. Like bevita said, scribing the metal proved to be near impossible. No matter what I tried, I could not get a respectable line. So I decided do the next best thing... make it look like it has panel lines. First I glued thin strips of plastic to the pan. Then I drilled holes in them to represent the rivets. Not quite the impression I was hoping for, but better then it was. The good thing about the kit is that I can remove the lower pan at a later date and try again.

DONE! I can't recommend these Revival kits to anyone short on patience. If you want one, try to find one of the plastic versions or get a GREAT price on a metal one! You'll probably have to do some work on the body and have to paint it anyway. The tank effect looks better then I thought it would and, although it was a very rough build, I'm happy with the result. The decals went to crap on me, but they were the only ones I had. I could have done a lot more to this, but it just wasn't worth the effort.

I really like what you did. This is a remarkable build and one you certainly made interesting. This is a special car and would be a great addition to any collection. I share the feeling of getting to a point in a build that I am just done with this. Thanks for sharing. Jim

Dear Mark (this is your name, isn't it?), I found your job really remarkable.... looking at the base kit, you improved it a lot and the result is really nice... I absolutely agree with you on the plastic version/zamac version question, but unfortunately this 156 is available only in metal version... I got the plastic version of the Alfa Romeo "Alfetta" 159, but the issue with these kits are the wheels with their plastic rims and spokes... almost twenty years ago I called the (Italian) factory by phone and I asked the boss to sell me a set of metal wheels, but he refused... In any case, good job!
