I got a completed model of the 1996 winner which, if I trust this forum and my own eyes, was the wrong color so I soaked it in brake fluid overnight.

Well its best to strip any paint if you dont know what it is. I'm glad to see you doing some WIP's now.

You can soak resin in brake fluid? I've used brake fluid on plastic, but was afraid to use it on resin! --Frank

Frank, I have used it on resin kits from both Lance Sellers and Bill Jorgensen. I have no idea what kind of resin they use or what date their kits were done. I have also used brake fluid to remove the "chrome" from manufactured kit wheels. I have not had it erode or dissolve anything I have tried so I hope there is not a first time. I learned of doing this on this forum so others may have information about their experiences trying this. Good luck. Jim i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/jamesharvey1175/IMG_0039_zpsmoiv0bxl.jpg

Craig suggested Krylon Short Cuts "Iris" would be a good color match. I found it at Hobby Lobby and I think he was spot on. This shows my fancy paint set up. I still have one front wing to make but did create a second side winglet that was missing. Jim

Actually I used Krylon Shortcuts "iris" on mine as well....there was no other alternative for this on.....yes I would have rather had a Lacquer choice but it wasn't possible.

I finally finished my 1996 winner. I tried to make it appear as in the post race day "official" photos. I know this is different that qualifying or race trim but that is what I had pictures of including some from the anniversary celebration a couple of years ago.
