I've just finished today Tommy Milton's 1923 Miller. Tommy Milton was one of the best drivers in the interwar era of 1919-1941 American racing. In that time he won two Indianapolis 500s (1921,1923-the first driver to win more than one) and two National titles (1920, 1921, even though the first one is disputed). His peak was between 1920-1924 when he had a respectful rivalry with Jimmy Murphy. In 1923 they both drove Millers, with Milton winning the 500 and Murphy finishing second in the AAA National Title behind Eddie Hearne. Milton did not win the 500 or any race for that matter in this paint scheme. That said it is one of the most striking of that era. It is said Tommy Milton only had one functioning eye but it didn't appear to bother him much, as he won a lot of races in spite of the handicap. Any discussion of the early era of American racing has to include him. I built this from a Gary Doucette kit and this may very well be his best work yet. It went together without any real trouble. It was a joy to build. The car is Tamiya black with Testor's Medium Sea Gray tires. I hope you enjoyed the WIP and thank you for looking at the finished product.

I agree with everyone else, nice looking subject.
I don't know if I will ever build anything below 1950 and have enough kits that need working on to last a life time (crossing fingers and moving up in magnification!!!!)

Very, very nice. I'm going to have to get me one of these. If I owned a racing car, it would be black and gold.

So much about this one is striking: your detail work, the paint, the gold number, the beauty of the car, the wire wheels, and of course tires that aren't black! This one should really stand out in your Indy builds. Nice to have great cars like this to build, even if they didn't win the 500.

Thanks so much for sharing the WIP and the final build. It looks really great. I appreciated your words about Gary's kit since I just bought this one and have yet to get it started. You give me hope. I didn't even know this car appeared this way since the pictures I have seen show it basically all white. What a contrast! Jim

Thank you for the kind words, they are much appreciated!
This may be my favorite one yet, I am very pleased. With the final result.
I also can't take credit for the gray tires by myself. The instructions for the Etzel Monroe Frontenac stated the medium sea gray was the best color to use for the tires on that kit and I just transferred the information to this one!
Thanks again for looking!
