Hi Everyone, I've been wondering if the AMT- Domino's Pizza "The Hot One" can be built into a reasonably accurate representation of the car Arie Luyendyk drove to win the 1990 contest. I think that the engine cover is too short and the rear wing sides are not square enough and the transaxle is maybe wrong, but does anyone know what to use to "accurize" this model to the 1990 standards. There seems to be quite a few of these kits available on E-bay, but it appears that the kit was issued before 1990 so it is not the updated model that Arie drove. I'd like to someday add this car to my collection with Michaels decals of course. Oh yes, paint colors would be useful too. Thanks, wrencher.

If you want it to be even somewhat accurate it would be a huge undertaking. A more reasonable conversion - if you don't mind 1/20 scale would be getting two Tamiya Lola's - one Duracell, one Kmart and using them to make a 90 Lola - although you could probably make do with a Kmart only. You would need to putty up the engine cover, but that's a LOT easier than converting an 88 March into a 90 Lola.

I think Bill Jorgensen did a conversion kit for this car several years ago. You might try the "Wanted" section to see if one of us might have one or continue to look on E-bay. Good luck. Jim

The 90 Lola resin body seemed pretty plentiful, I never got one but it seemed like there were a lot in circulation over the years.

Long ago, when it was the only game in town, I chose as my Indy modeling scale as 1/24 or 1/25. I now have a collection of 33 finished cars of this scale. I'm going to stick to this scale. I know that there are now many other upcoming scales, both larger and smaller, but when I started, 1/25 was about it. One thing I would like to mention here though, is when a person posts an article about building or posting photos, it would be very useful to me at least if they would at the start of an article, identify the scale of which they are dealing with. Maybe at the subject line the scale could be identified like above 1/25 1990 Indy winner. Thanks for the info on the 1990 car. I didn't realize that the original plastic kit was as far off as it is. I think my best bet is to look for the Jorgensen conversion kit. It may take a while to find one though, but I have plenty of projects to work on right now anyway. I think chaparral2k has a WIP on the Jorgensen conversion kit currently running right now which sparked this curiosity about the AMT offering. I just thought it could be an easier build using the factory offerings. Oh well, this is what makes this hobby so interesting to me. Thank you everyone. Wrencher.

I am a great deal like you. I got started in 1/24 and 1/25 and am still doing it. I look at other scales and diecast but they just don't do it for me. I'm 73 and have more kits to build than I have time. I have tried to build Indy winners but also throw in some just interesting cars like the Novi for the fun of it. Our after market producers like Bill, Lance, Calvin, Rick, Gary, Michael and others keep me buried but inspired to keep on modeling. I managed to get my Jorgensen conversion from a posting on this forum. It needed some reworking and refreshing but I am really happy with how it turned out. Thanks for being a part of this. Jim

I did my '90 winner using the AMT Lola T8900. Yes, the engine cover had to be extended, and I cut down and shaped a nose from an extra Reynard nose (no power for days after Hurricane Charlie, so the nose modification helped pass the lantern-lighted evenings). The most satisfying part of the build was getting all those white stripes from the Indycal sheet on the engine cover correctly! --Frank

I can't seem to locate a Jorgensen kit. I guess no one wants to let one go. Either that or nobody that has one has seen my want add. I'll probably try a conversion of my own later on. Never thought of the Lola T8900 for this. Thanks for the tip. Also thanks for the photo tip. They are a great help. James, I'm a couple of years up on you. I'm 77 almost 78 and I still enjoy working with my hands and creating something. With great subjects like Indy winners, we'll have plenty of subjects for our future spare time. Thanks again. Howard.
