This is an old project I started to go along the Ferrari 246/66 F1 car. I looked for this but couldn't find it so here goes...I have always held that I could make static models from clear slot car bodies (the stilled McLaren M2a for example). Back in '66 I watched the start of the Monaco GP on ABC and later my fav sequence in the movie "Grand Prix" echoed it again as "Il Gran John" muscled the heavy but powerful 312 F1 into the lead! I loved the truncated nose and so grabbed the Dynamic slot body while it was still available for a reasonable price. I decided to use the MPC Eagle monocoque as the main chassis unit and some of the suspension...the engine came from a Testors 365 Daytona and the injection stacks from my friend Trevor at Corner 5 Hobbies... and the transaxel...I don't have a clue, but it's perfect... the front upper front rocker arms came from the most versatile of parts...AMT's Lotus...it works so well... The exhaust are solder pieces hand bent and will be 3into1 type when done.. I used a base flat white that didn't quite dry so I did it over again and am still not quite happy with the red, but I'll go ahead with it... So more will follow as I finish up one of the other projects! Patrick

The beginning of the 3 liter era was a wild time. Looking forward to seeing this beautiful Ferrari take shape.

The first time I saw an F1 car in person was watching Mario blast down the front straight at Ontario in the 312B. Woo Hoo! And Matras and BRMs and Lotus oh my! Always felt the 3 liter formula was the best. MJ

The 1966 season was quite strange... with the English teams looking for a good engine (the H16 BRM being too heavy and fragile and the V12 Maserati too heavy and old), Ferrari had all he needed to win the Championship... but he achieved to loose his first driver (and one of the best on the market) John Surtees for a business issue (Big John wanted to race for Eric Broadley's Lola in Can Am series)... moreover, the new V12 3 litre engine still needed some setting up, and thus Jack Brabham, that had been smart to use the Oldsmobile-derived Australian Repco engines, with poor power but high reliability, won the title... Jack wasn't the best driver around but he was a fine and smart technician, and he had been always the right man at the right moment...
Patrick, I love this subject as for the McLaren... go ahead!
