Brabham BT3 Coventry-Climax from...a HK toy, of course!

I've been sitting on this project for some time now as I have posted enough still born projects. A long time back I bought a Marx toy off of Evilbay and was a bit disappointed as it was somewhat large (possibly 1/22)...


I didn't do anything to it except take the wheels (nice Cooper types) off and used them on one of my Cooper projects...


Last November I decided to slice and dice the bugger into sections...



in the mean time I built a spaceframe for it which also fit the BT19/20 project I'm planning! I also made a new nose and rebuilt the engine cover which needed some correcting...



I used an AMT Lotus 29 trans cover to duplicate the BT3's ZF trans cover...

so far so good...


I went and asked the 1/32 slot guys that Beardog belongs to and they suggested using Tamiya TS41 Blue Coral as the body color and I sprayed it over a grey primer to darken it a tad...



the engine sat a bit too high and that had to be modified and lowered...

everything fits ok so far...



The color matches Sir Jack's car at the 1962 Nurburgring and I have Brabham front wheels with Cooper rears to put on...

I wish I had Lance's upper A-arms from his Hawk kit, but I have some pieces that might work. That's for another day as I still have some body work paint to deal with! Ya gotta love Hong Kong toys like I do to do something crazy like this...I may never get to that Heller BT33 at this rate!!

That stupid McLaren stalled because of the nose up attitude. I have to figure out how to lower the front suspension. Same problem with the Tyrrell 6-wheeler! Best laid plans gone awry. Rats...

Pretty freaking incredible! Takes lots of creativity to see how you want to get there. Then to scratchbuild and kit bash (toy bash?) until you get there. Really great work, Patrick.
