Really great shots, makes me long for those days even more. I did notice on the Formula 5000 stickers it also had USAC on them. Anybody have any insight on that? Thanks for passing this link along Patrick, loved them.

Thanks for the post.
USAC integrated (and I don't remember the rules package) F5000 into the National Championship in 1975. A few of these cars ran on the Mile at Phoenix. The other cool thing was Gurney took the turbo Indy Eagle and ran against these F5000 cars. (I think at Riverside)
most of the info is on the 'Net. You should check "those days" out.

Great photos! The Surtees had slipped my mind (like a bunch of other things). That was a good looking car! --Frank

That was a good looking car! --Frank The TS5 was a Len Terry (Eagle F1) design originally known as a Leda (which wasn't so good). But as the TS5 Hobbs kicked some butt in F5000. I'd like to see more on the turbo Eagle running at Riverside. Patrick

I loved F5000 cars. In fact, I just read there is supposed to be a huge field of them at Monterey Historics. I wasn't planning on going, but I am now. Great link Patrick. In fact I was at the Riverside race when USAC/SCCA co-sanctioned the series. Being the road racing snob I once was I figured the Eagle, as well as uncle Bobby at the wheel, would be soundly beaten by the "proper" road racers. Ha! Bobby put it on pole and smoked them. But then something broke. I recall Mario winning both heats and it seemed the Eagle led both, but it may not have started the second heat. I gained a greater respect for the true Indy car and the ol' Offy. As well as uncle Bobby. I have since learned these beasts put out about 900-1000 hp, with horrible turbo lag. Must have been a (expletive deleted) on a road course but Unser was great. I have a picture somewhere of Mario driving with Johnny Rutherford's helmet. His lid was lost or stolen between heats. MJ
