Help! Help! I need rear views of the 1981 Norton Spirit Penske 9b. I'm trying a difficult conversion (for me) of an AMT Pc-6 kit. I have most of it figured out, but I haven't a clue as to what the rear of this car looked like. Any help at all would be very much appreciated. Thanks guys. H.W.

I'll look in the 1981 Yearbook but man, I'd love to see an '81 Penske!! Since Lance has put out a lot of 1981 cars, maybe he will do this car if his current Penske project sells well! ;D

That car is at Penske's Museum in Scottsdale. I'll be there next week and get you all the photos you need. Just give me a few days.

The car in the Penske Museum is not the winner or so I was told when out there last year. But it is close enough.

Ladies and gents, this afternoon I took detailed photos of Bobby's 1981 winner (or representation of the winner if you prefer) at Penske's museum in Scottsdale. I will be home on Saturday and post them soon after.

Thanks for the great walkaround photos. I wish that there were some of the car fully assembled from different angles. I know that you have to take what you get as the car is displayed on the day you were there. I really appreciate your doing these photos for us. H.W.

This is a perfect example of what Russ was talking about in one of his earlier posts . Building out of the box is fine but this lets the builder be creative and improve his skills in ways a straight build could never do, but be careful, scratch building can be very addictive. The more of yourself you put into a model , the more you will be appreciative , satisfied and proud of what you have built when you are done. Great job ! Lance

Beautiful. That car looks fast, like your '79 Mears build.
BTW, what was your paint usage?

The white is Model Master Classic white, the blue is Testors dark blue in the little square bottles, and the wheels are Alclad chrome over glossy black lacquer. H.W.

Another beautiful model by Wrencher! I know this is a day late and a dollar short, but I had been surfin' the web and found this site with some pretty detailed pictures of the PC-9B. There are other real Indy Cars on the site some are sold and some are for sale. Great detail pictures for those interested. Again, great job Jim www.race-cars.com/carsold/other/1081827092/1081827092pp.htm

I like those kind of selling sites for references but that car is not accurate for the '81 Indy winner - I checked a few references just be sure but the sidepods for sure jump out as inaccurate and I suspect a few other things, too, but haven't researched it enough to say definitely.

I agree, not the same car at all. The side pods are definitely different. H.W.

Jordan The sidepods on the real car are very much wrong the front part needs to be about 10" away from wheel and its missing the fixed skirts... But this subject makes me want to build one from scratch too!
