All I've been doing is a lot of test fitting and fiddling around. I just figure the more prep the better.

I am really enjoying this. I don't remember that Bill did this kit. I think Jan Opperman made the race in 1974 in one of these. Jim

I agree, the wing support looks really trick. I tried making one of these years ago. Mine did not have the contour from front to back that your construction seems to have. I used sheet styrene. I have a Samsonite and a Al Unser Viceroy car in my collection.

Does anyone have any idea how the header layout goes?
I'm getting to the point where I'm just going to make an educated guess.....along with that silly turbo intake pipe under the drive train.

I'm still thinking about how to set this up....I've been taking my huge box of parts and going through everything and trying to come up with the best combinations. Ever since I was a little boy, Dad always drilled it into my head that everything built needs to HEVY DUTY and I have the tendency to overkill the heavy duty....I feel like this rear wing support is a risk of maybe not being strong....so I'll added extra super glue on the inside and along with epoxie sculpt. And after the epoxie dried I drill holes and glue in some brass rod for anchoring down when I attach the rear wing. I might not be an engineer but I do tell people I went to school with some. Since this rear wing setup has the tenancy to move around or possible not line up....I went ahead and got it all lined up and glue it on for good....I drill holes into the wing and fit my rear wing support with the brass rods onto the resin rear wing. I also painted the inside of the wing support black before closing up the back. I'll do my traditional building style of worry about body work first and detail later. and to make life easier I'm setting up the rear wing end plates to slip onto the rear wing after being painted red....as the rear wing is white. Its lined up OK....good enough without going crazy. Then just starting on other detail parts.

I must agree with all of them...this is masterful work Calvin! I won't drill end plate holes because I can't drill straight! Patrick

I agree with Patrick: drilling the wing end plates in the proper place (so they line up) and to drill them straight is...well... the work of a master! You're an engineer in my book! --Frank

I need to do some mold making and resin casting on some exhaust parts and turbo.....which I'm working with in a top secret kit I've been working on.
...and I've had a lot going on lately as my friends know.....

I got busy on other things but I got this one back out to do some more work on it.....I had to make some resin turbo parts for it which I finally got it done so I can get going on this again! I got the front wings on. I was going to attach them after painting but knowing myself I knew I would make a huge mess and for safety I did it now for extra strength....I also pinned them up.....it will be harder to paint and polish but I'll be OK. I also got the rear wing primed but thats nothing exciting - I'll show it when I get it all painted up!

The rear wing is painted and decaled. I gave it about 5 lite coats of Model Masters Lacquer Clear yesterday and I will use Tamiya Polishing compound in a few days. I also painted everything else black so when I paint it the final color of Aluminum it will help the metallic look better.

Supposedly there's something going on here! Front suspension is tested fitted on and all that stuff in the back is in the process of being finalized.

This looks really good. I like the aluminum tab at the top of the wing. (I am going to steal this technique ;-)) it looks like you have figured out the turbo arrangement. In my book these were very good looking cars.

I'm just kinda guessing on the intake pipe layout.....we know it goes under the drive train but how? It's anyone's guess!I used some large brass rod - will it come out looking good....who knows? It's anyone's guess! This might be the first Indycar with skirts? but who knows?..... It's anyone's guess!I'm just doing an edJucated guess on the layout of the skirts.....will anyone really know? It's anyone's guess!

How do we get around flat bottomed cars? With skirts. This is a really interesting build. Glad that you are doing this. They were sure experimenting with various bodies in this era trying to go fast. Your attention to detail and problem solving is outstanding. Jim

I know I'm coming into this thread a little late, but is it still possible to get one of these kits? Unless someone wants to give up their own but these are extremely rare and long out of production.
