German built. Very interesting. Imagine if Germany became the formula car base instead of the UK.

The Toyota F1 team initially worked out of their German Racing tech center I am not sure how many cars were designed and manufactured there but they also do the WRC Rally cars, LeMans and other forms of racing there...Chris

The McNamaras were interesting cars about which little seems to have been written. There are a few references that can be found on the web, but nothing that one would say were a good review of the intent of its designs. The McNamaras were to be Granatelli's technical follow-up to the turbines and Lotus 64! They seem to have mostly used the turbo Ford Quad cam, however the only race win was with the Non turbo quad cam, 1970 car. I have also seen one period photo of a McNamara with a Gurney Stock block engine.
I always thought the 1971 car the more interesting with its stepped side wings, however they eventually disappeared from the design.

I kinda like the F117 Stealth panel down the sides!! were they trying to fool the radar on the straights?? actually I read where Mario tried to get Ferrari to build a Indy Engine for this car and although considered it went No Where.. Chris

The 1972 car looks like an update of the 1970 car?

I had posted some pictures on this board of the 71 MacNamara car in 2010 when it was parked in front of the Hanna/Andretti Car Wash in Allentown, Pa. mb2501.proboards.com/thread/1711/1971-mcnamaraThe car was in pretty sorry condition at the time and needed a complete restoration. Unknown where the car is or who is in ownership of it. Jim

I like the look of the Gurney powered version, cleaner looking than the turbo plumbers nightmare cammer.

One of the cool things about that era was that the look of cars would change dramatically from race to race as the teams tried new ideas to improve performance. Not like today where the visual is pretty much fixed for the season, and updates can be more subtle. Looking forward to at least some differentiation with the new aero kit era.
