Well... While waiting for things to do the 1960 winner, I have decided to break my personal rule about having two projects going at once, but I have wanted o do this car for a long time. When completed...this will be Jack McGrath's Hinkle Special. Starting with the old Monogram Kurtis kit....this has been fun so far. I have had to relocate the exhaust opening and groud out the grill opening. So far...so good.... Best to you Russ

Can't wait to see your progress on this kit. I'm assuming you're building the 55 car. Is there a decal set for this? Tom T.

The decals are available from a guy on eBay who calls himself "plaincheeseburger". Nicest guy in the world and very reasonable.

JUST AN UPDATE!First, allow me to brag a little. The decals sheet is done by a very talented duo in this forum. Thanks Bill and Hugh for the decals, you made this project possible!! The body is glued together, th nose hollowed out and some sanding done to smooth things over. Thanks to Bob Clidinst for his valuable drawings on this car. This has been fun! Best to you Russ

I am more than happy that you are pleased with the decals. Hugh is supposed to get out of the hospital today and I expect him to join in ASAP. I only wish the decals could be more readily available to all. Maybe Michael would like to print the artwork?

The other side...The side with the major plastic surgery, just before primer. This one has been fun with scratch building the cockpit. The wheels came from an old Etzel Speed Classic Kuzma and I ground off the dirt tires and I am going to put on pavement Indy Tires. I am sending a set of these wheels to DrDave in hopes he'll offer them to everybody real soon. Best to you Russ

Hey Russ, first, that project is really looking great. Second, I know someone else has already asked this but, how did you make that bitchin' ( a great Southern Cal term) windshield mount? Thanks

I panted it this afternoon with Dupi-Color Light Yellow...and it's a perfect match to the video tape I have of the race.
Best to you

Okay....Now the sucker is painted and the suspension is put on as well. I have been guilty for a long time, of not being very posotive about this OLD Monogram kit. For a model kit older than I am.....this kit offers some very good things. I am impressed with how it has gone together and the detail it has out of the box. With a little work and re-work, it offers some very good things. I have he wheels painted and I am working on the exhaust. The dash is alomst done as well....Someone needs to seriously think of doing a cockpit detail kit for this kit!!!! Hint, hint, hint.... Best to you Russ

Hey Russ - Gorgeous looking car! Yes, that kit needs a "little" help, but it's a great starting point for many different cars. All the basic stuff is there, just needs some massaging and details. A cockpit detail set would be a welcome addition, too. I would buy a half-dozen to start!
Brian
P.S. - Several of us NEED to know how you did that windshield molding, pretty please!

Hey Brian,
I did nothing to the windshield molding but drilled small holes to simulate fastners..is that what you mean?
Best to you
Russ
