I painted my latest project, Mel Kenyon's 1971 Sprite Kuzma. It is a Lance Sellers kit which I've painted Model Master Green Go. I think it may be a bit dark. The kit is a masterpiece of engineering and I hope to do it justice. I hope to take more photos this time around as I'm building. Thanks for looking!

I think the color looks great, I have seen these cars look lighter and darker in photos than you have painted yours, wich is why I never trust old color prints to be the final word on the color of a car. Looking forward to your build!

YES! Just seeing this makes my day! Don't worry about the color as I think this shade of unripened yellow looks nice and fruity....I'm NOT saying it's correct but it's better looking than the lighter unripened yellow. It looks like you really got the paint on very smooth! Just think, poor ol' Mel almost got his feet ripped off in this car! And! The great thing about Sprite is it doesn't have caffeine in it! (an artificial energy boost)

Great looking paint! What's the story on your pet spider in the photo? It looks like she has only three legs!

Looks great, Jerry. The way you are cranking them out, we will have to start calling you "The Midwest Machine".

Thanks for the kind words guys, this is a beautiful car as is and with the bright un ripe yellow it really pops even more. I've seen photos and footage of the 1971 race and it's an absolute miracle that not only did Mel Kenyon come out of it without losing any of his anatomy but that the track crewmen who were already over the fence didn't get hit. That had the potential to be a lot worse. However, the aftermath of the crash provided one of the most unique interviews in IMS history as David Letterman interviewed Mario Andretti (who was also involved in the accident) for the ABC broadcast. Kenyon's crash started a not-so good day for the Sprite team. I think off hand that of the three cars Lindsey Hopkins entered Wally Dallenbach was the only finisher. We talk of drivers who deserved to win the 500, but if there was an owner who should've gotten one it was Hopkins. I had some free time tonight and I got the front suspension and nose together. These pieces all went on smooth. Alt-The "spider" you saw was the mirror for this car, I had constructed it earlier and was impressed enough with how it turned out to put it in my photo but I forgot to mention it. I decided to test for it on the car and it looks pretty good. Thanks again for the compliments and stay tuned for more progress! I also like the sound of the "Midwest Machine" Craig, that is a high honor!

This is really looking good....I really like the un ripped yellow! This is really exciting! Thurston the rabbit would be proud! I almost know the 1971 Indy 500 broadcast word for word I've watched it so much. LOL The race had a lot of action. Back when I was a little boy and started learning about the 1971 M@r1b0r0 Championship Trail I would watch the Jimmy Bryan 150, all the Indy 500 films and broadcast, and Rex Mays 150....over and over and over......then I went trough all my uncle's old car magazines and find articles about old USAC stuff and I would photocopy the pages......I used to print off USAC logos and tape them on my school folders.

I've made some more progress with the car, it goes together like a charm! The suspension isn't a problem as Lance engineered the car brilliantly. I always worry about that but with this one there've no problems so far. I've come a long way with it but I have some more to do.

Absolutely Awesome!
This is really getting good.....its been so long since someone built this car.
You know what?
Right or wrong THIS IS the color I'm going to use on mine......I don't care as it looks so good.
BTW......the lighting in that room works great with your phone camera.
