Hello all. As is the case with most modellers you can NEVER have only one project going at a time. I have been itching to start another one so here it is. I will be retro ' ing this car to 92 specs and will most likely make a Newman Hass entry. Not quite sure what livery I want to put on it yet.

Had some fill in to do on the nose of the car . You can see here the tube that will hold the front wings in place and later on the adjuster screws will be added.

A fairly significant amount of work needed to be done to the front of the chassis to bring it in line with 92 specs.

The speedway version is coming along very nicely and being a larger scale the opportunity for detail will be amazing. Thanks for tuning in fellow obsessed. Will

We will enjoy watching you do this one....there is a lot of Tamiya Lola fans out there....its a great kit. I wished Tamiya would reissue it again so Indycals can stock up and become rich off of them.

Am I missing something? I thought the 1992 Ford Lolas looked identical to the 1993 Lola?

No. Lots of slight differences such as the engine cover and fuel fill location. Pretty close but they are different.

Looking forward to this WIP. 1992 1993 1993 had a few rules changes which added foot protection to the front of the car. You will notice that the attachment screws for the nose cone are noticeably forward on the '93 car versus the '92. I thought that meant the car was longer but am not sure that is true. Also, flush faced wheels were outlawed for 1993 in an effort to increase drag/reduce speeds. Looks also to be some differences in the rear suspension pushrod location, engine cover shape, transmission area, rear wing support angle, rear wheel kickups, rear wing endplates, side view mirrors, pop off valve, etc. Jordan

Ironic that you have Andretti up there .......it was his 6 of 10 broken toes at Indy in 92 and a rash of foot injuries that ushered in the change to the nose.

That was my first 500 (or any race) to actually see in person. I've rewatched the TV coverage a bunch of times, lots of foot and leg injuries during the month of May in 1992: Nelson Piquet, Mario Andretti, Jeff Andretti, and Rick Mears come to mind. Aftermath of Jeff Andretti's wreck on the Lola. I read a lot of racing magazines back then so these rule changes stick with me better than most **Edit** Hiro Matsushita also suffered a broken leg during Indy prep in 1992. Also looks like the front wing is mounted higher on the 1993 Lola. Jordan

Thanks Jordan for the explanation. I never really looked that closely into it, I guess. I just knew the 92 Lola for the Fords looked a bit different than the Chevy powered Lola chassis.

You can tell by the rear wing support. The 93’s wing support was much like a 92. The other details are on the sidepods. The 93 had the humps on the sidepods much like the 90 to 92 Lolas had. The 94s and 95s did not have the humps on the sidepods. Lastly is the rear of the engine cover. The 94 was all encompassing, while the 93 was a little more open. There are other small details, but those are the major differences. Jim

Could be, it is a shame you can't trust the IMS website to have the right pics in the right years!
