With the upcoming re-release I thought it might be nice to have a thread featuring reference pictures of the 38...Stumbling through the internet I discovered this test day shot of the car using Goodyear tires, with a crewman wearing what appears to be a Firestone cap! Please feel free to post your pictures here, and I will be posting several more later... A nice revelation of the hub assembly as well...

Some great pics! Most of my 65 to 73 Indy references are black and white pics. So any colored pictures are great! Many Thanks, Jim

This was not unusual back during the tire-wars of the 1960's....Foy was in the middle of fighting with Firestone during the 500 of 64, and wanted to run Goodyear's and had them come to Indy with a stock car tire and he ran a few laps and wasn't happy with them. So he ran on Firestone's wearing driver's suit with Goodyear logo's on it. Three years later, in 1967...A.J. brought Goodyear their first 500 Victory.
Best to you

Macsparty...
GREAT PHOTO'S!!!!!!!!!!!! Now the Ford has cleaned up this historic race car....One would think company politics should hung high up their butt to get it correct.....That car would look great sitting on cinder-blocks. Oh well....great pics!
Best to you

Then again, my Carousel model of this car has the Firestone logoes but no Ford stuff on it. I had to buy the Island Collectibles "Lotus Powered by Ford" logos. As soon as I work up the courage to remove the "Team Lotus" logo and a stretch of yellow pin stripe, I'll be in business. . .

These companies need to get off their high horses and let history be preserved properly.

Borrowed from 'Only Classics', but I have a book with this same full size picture in it so possibly it has been "borrowed" more than once...

Seems to me that Firestone dumbed up on this one. One of the most well known cars in racing history and they don't care if their tires are on it? That's stupid. Don't forget that Firestone is now a Japanese company now and as such will never admit fault. Something about " loosing face" I guess. my .02 Craig

Jim Jaeger's Lotus 38 is currently on display at the Speedway museum. This is actually Clark's #19 car but has been restored as Bobby John's car from 65 which it is probably not. The light is much better in this museum so maybe some of our Indy residents can take a few additional pictures. This car was restored by Racecar Restorations in Indy. They have restored several Lotus38's but not the 65 winner. The restoration is about 99% correct
