I know this board is probably a little more 1/18 and 1/24 focused, but I decided to head down the 1/43 path of painful cost in the 80's and 90's and have ONLY collected this scale. It's a tough life, but Spark and Replicarz have given me new life. I am still customizing but days of starting a Tameo white metal or Formula Model resin kit from scratch I think are behind me with kids in sports, work, etc. Allegedly only 600 pieces for the Speedway Wings version, but still I am not going to pay $200+ even though 1/43 is all I collect (I have paid nearly $300 for Colin Fraser-level builds in the past, but with kids heading to college my world is being prioritized lol). I bought a couple of the RC versions from Long Beach for $60 before I found out a Speedway version existed. I was thinking I would customize one, but not a big fan of the RC version of the DW12 and those little boxy 1/43 wings scare me. I'll hold out hope that Greenlight or Premium X allows another run to be made in higher numbers or at a decent price. I'll stay on eBay looking for a Speedway version. You'd think with the tooling already done they could at least offer 500-1000 white cars or something. I don't know what the market place even is, maybe 100 is all they would sell? Sadly us Indy fans (and in particular fans that build and collect little cars) are in lesser numbers than ever. Here's the pics of this VERY nice car by the way, had you just saw the pics and the helmet, seat belts, etc you'd probably think it was a 1/24 at least so that's great quality: Speedway Aero Package (Indy 500): Long Beach Winner:

I also collect primarily 1/43 scale. I started with the Onyx Indycars in the very early 90s, and have never looked back. While I can't say that I have every one ever made, I DO have every one I have ever seen, save for a few custom runs done by wholesalers in South America, of Brazilian drivers. When Minichamps/Action started producing them, I was in heaven - the quality was way better than Onyx, and the price was still reasonable. They were popular enough that I could even get tobacco decals for the cars that needed them. Then came the Indycar/Champcar split, and I haven't seen a new casting since. In my opinion, 1/43 is the perfect compromise between size and fidelity - big enough to offer excellent detail, but small enough to have room for lots of them. If I could get a white version of the above Sato Speedway car for around $40, I would immediately buy at least 33 of them! As followers of my posts know, I like to build entire Indy 500 starting fields, and I'd love to have at least one in 1/43. I build them in 1/64 now, only because I couldn't display them all in 1/24 or 1/18. As a builder of Formula One kits in 1/43, 1/64 isn't really that satisfying - no matter how much effort I put into them, most end up looking like toys, not precision scale models. Like you, I would gladly support any diecast producer willing to offer a reasonably high quality, moderately priced, Speedway version Indycar in 1/43. As your photos show, the molds already exist - just start offering them already! I've included a pic of what I can do with a 1/43 scale kit. Please let me do it with my beloved Indycars!

I agree with you. I would have went with 1:43 also if there would have been a good selection. Now, I have to many 1:64 to make the change.

Now, I have to many 1:64 to make the change. What? LOL! Says who? Is that some Montana Law that you can't build any other scale? If you come over to 1/25 land we will spoil you!

I have some 1:25 kits and some built cars. It's just a matter of space but I have been tempted when I see all of the great cars being produced by you guys.

Holy cow! I looked at all of the pages. Man, they are ambitious. I think I saw at least one car on each of the 22 pages that I want. And some pages (like all the Indy cars) I want all of them. This could get pricy. MJ

Yes, it appears that they both are. Spark's versions will be up to their usual high standards, but if Replicarz's Blue Crown Specials are any indication, theirs will be even better. Mark loves Indy almost as much as he loves motorcycles, and he takes models with his company's name on them very seriously. BTW, Mark needs more preorders for AJ Foyt's 1/18 Indy winners, so if you have any interest, shoot him an email and order one (or both).

Upon browsing Spark's 2015 catalog, I see that they will be producing the Ligier I posted a picture of above. Is it just me, or are others also slightly disappointed when they see a model they built from a kit offered as a pre-built model?

Upon browsing Spark's 2015 catalog, I see that they will be producing the Ligier I posted a picture of above. Is it just me, or are others also slightly disappointed when they see a model they built from a kit offered as a pre-built model? I don't get disappointed. Sometimes I try to anticipate what might be made by Spark or someone else, and keep my 1/43 kit building to more specialized subjects. I still prefer my models without driver figures. As nice as the F1 and now Indy cars are getting, that part disappoints me. But looking at the catalog, I see I now have a decision of whether to build the Formula Models kits I have, or sell them off to buy the Spark Models versions instead. It was an easier decision when I was comparing a Starter Le Mans kit compared to the modern Spark. I'm leaning towards keeping the kits.

There's a lot of dreams, plans and hopes in those kits you have already bought! Remember how you felt when you bought them? Keep 'em. --Frank
