I just watched some old races on DVD that Duane was kind enough to send me. Really great stuff. I find it facinating that while they required roll bars, the roll bars weren't required to extend higher than the drivers head. Watching those races really brings home how brave those guys were. I wonder how many of todays drivers could or would drive those roadsters.

Now you know why I have always been a fan of guys like Foyt and Parnelli Jones......REAL MEN of racing! We used to say if you took any of these pretty boys and put any of them in a Watson Roadster on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and all you'd get is a new exit off the track in turn one were they'd hit the wall....Real hard!
You can't blame them.....the new cars is all they know and all they want to know. One of the many reasons I have always respected Dan Gurney is he passed and wanted to pass his driver test at Indy in a roadster......When you're good, you can drive anything...Like Foyt, Jones, Ward, Andretti, Rutherford and Johncock did.......all started in front engine cars.
Front engine cars!....Where God intended the engine to be...Now if only we can get a new, modern roadster back at Indy......
Best to you
