Well, using DrDave's conversion parts to make this one. On race day, the body panel over the car's engine was removed to make the car run cooler. Here it is...ready for paint, in primer Best to you Russ

Hey Russ! Kinda figured you were doing the 1960 winner from your earlier post on building the dash. Looking great so far! Can't wait to see it when it's done! Tim

Nice start, Russ. Glad to see you have the computer bugs *fixed*!
Now, about using Chris's engine in the AMT kit?? I remember you saying that you were going to cover that. ;D

Hey Mongo!!!!
I'm using the kit Offy Engine...which is small I admit, but...I have only one Etzel Offy and it's already spoken for to go into a Etzel Kuzma kit. Mr. Indy said he was thinking of popping a copy off of it and I hope he does. Yeah, got the old computer fixed and running again......Just in time because I can't go forward on the Ken-Paul Special yet...waiting for a few things first. Thanks for the kind words
Best to you!
Russ

Hi Ziggy,
No....this is the good old AMT 1963 Watson with conversion parts made by DrDave....Like a new nose, a hood and the cockpit cover to back-date the 63 winner to other Watson's. You also get tires and wheels with it. So the kit frame and engine were put into the kits original lower body section and the other part glued onto it. I know the kit engine is way too small, but the Etzel engine which is perfect, is too large to fit into the old frame and ody...so one has to compromise. I also agree......The color that Terry painted his was dead on accurate and beautiful.....And why I am going nuts trying to get it.
Best to you
Russ

Hi russ,
We need to *revisit* this one! ;D I see the windscreen mount you made and need to see it in *detail*! You gotta give it up on this one.
BTW: Hugh Boulden (smokeycars) is in the Hospital again. He suffered a stroke caused by blood clots. He is recovering very well as of Thursday but is in ICU.
So, how DID you make that windscreen mount? ;D

First of all...HUGH...GET BETTER FAST!!!!!!!!! I need to give props out to Terry Jesse and Tom Hampton for the paint. I used to think the 1960 Winner was the most boring paint job of all the winners. Now that the paint in on this sucker....I LOVE THE COLOR!!!!! I'm looking froward to finishing this project....DrDave's parts make it easy for those who missed Etzel's Speed Classic Watson kit. Best to you Russ

Some of the old photos don't do justice to the actual colors of the cars. This one is a good example and so is the WIP Hinkle Special. I always thought it was some sort of beige.

That is one reason I buy the Rare Sports Films videos....Doak Ewing has restored all the color and they are accurate. Also, they are, for the most part, quite good.
Best to you

IT'S FINISHED!!!!!!!![http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq15/OldCal/P1010087.jpg/img] Big THANKS to Tom Hampton, Terry Jesse, and Mike Portero at Indycals for this one...and of course, to DrDave for the parts. DrDave's parts back date any old AMT Watson to any of the 1959-62 winning Watsons. DrDave's parts make it much easier than doing the modifications yourself. I had several spare decals sheets from the Etzel Speed Classic Watson kit, but they aren't accurate. On the Ken Paul Team Logo, it's missing the black out line around the cowboy hat. Also, Mike's sheet is much better for the black out line around the Ken-Paul Special lettering on the hood is much more thinner. Getting the Indycals sheet for this car is a MUST!I had too much fun with this one. I make no secret of my love for the good old Watson Roadsters. Too me, THIS IS AN INDYCAR! Now for those that don't have one of the revered Etzel Sped Classic kits, you have the next best thing. With Lance's 63-64 Conversion kits and DrDave's parts, you have no excuses anymore. Build what you want of the Watsons. Best to you all.... Russ
