It hasn't seen the light of day for awhile, but this is a neglected classic in glue bomb form. With the Pinto wheels/tires it should be a great complement to the 2014 F1 Constructors Championship winner... I put some good detail photos of the Lee Indy car project in the Indy section. I was going to detail the engine, but I'm running out of time to do complicated projects. So, a curbside looks like the ticket. Patrick

I'm looking for some red numbers (black outline preferred) for this beastie. I'll be happy with a #4 or #16 like these... Can anyone direct me to where I can get some? Patrick

This Hawk kit was one of my best childhood modeling memories. I was really proud of it. If anyone has one they want to let go please let me know. Glue bomb, unbuilt kit, doesn't matter.
Thanks, Sandy

Going through a bit of a slow time here cuz of the rain...I can't paint bodies with this high humidity. However, I did some test fitting and and worked up some interior... I didn't have the suspensions so I had to bash some parts to work. The difficulty is getting the ride height correct as the gluing takes place... but Pinto's wheel/tyre combo does look killer... However, I did discover that Pinto's construction isn't with out error as I found that the rim on one of my front wheels was glued in crooked . I also found that the kit's rear brake covers should be the same as the front covers. Since I was thankful to even get as much as I did of this kit I didn't fret over the difference. Next I'll set the body up with a clearance and then fiddle with the wheel/tire ride height. These kinds of problems are taxing my ability to scratch-bash and making me long to just build an out of the box model...ugh! Patrick

I finally am going to finish this car! So the tires/wheels are on! Thank you Pinto for these beautiful wire wheels/tyres as they look terrific! Finish the interior, add the exhausts and detail paint some things, next. Patrick

Well, I have the car free standing with its exhausts in place and a drivers seat glued in... Ugh, the dash is going to be made more simply, add the gear selector and hand brake. Patrick

Here's an interesting note...the exhaust pipes exit out of the body in different places, about 3/8" different in location. I wonder if the real Lee car was used for measurements or was this just an error.

This is just great, Patrick. I loved it when I saw your photo of using paint bottles to hold the front wheels/tires in place while the glue dried. I do the same thing. In some ways, this car was an end of an era begun when the Europeans brought cars to the US for the Vanderbilt Cup races in the late 1930s. We discovered their cars and they discovered our drivers. Can you imagine Rex Mays competing in Europe? That might have been something to see. Thanks again for an interesting and historic build. Jim

Wasn't the engine at an angle ala Lancia Ferrari D50?
