This is my version of Bill Jorgensen's 1953 Fuel Injection Special. Better and more accurate the the 1/18 scale die cast

Very nice. I've been working on this for what seems forever now. I just got a decent paint job down on it over the weekend, but it's quite a bit darker than yours. Oh well. One of these days I'll get it done!

Man, looks even better from this side, if that's possible!
This might be a silly question, but those silver discs, what are those covering, and why did you cover them? And how?
I like the buckle straps too! I hadn't thought of doing that yet.

Hi Macsparty!
On the real car in 1952, the for small openings were for where the openings for the fuel injection system on the Offy had stuck out the side. In 1953, they covered those holes up with bare metal disks because they did have those openings for the 53 race. All I did was fill in the side of the model body where Bill had put those openings, take photo-etch disks to simulate the metal coverings before I started to paint the body, along with small photo-etch hex head bolts and glued them to the body. Primered and painted the body with gray lacquer paint and the buff the paint job out to the proper shine. When you wet-dry sand the paint job, the photo-etch parts shine up and look like the the real fasteners on the car. Fred Lombardo taught me this trick and it works good on all Indy cars fasteners on all eras. If you look at my model of the 1977 Coyote, you'll see I did on that model too. I did it on the 1967 Coyote as well. It's time consuming, but worth it in the long run.

Thanks for the explanation, oldcalhoun! Learn something here nearly every day. But now I just have one more thing to add to my list as I work on this one.

All right, I think I figured out how I'm gonna do it. I raided the wife's scrapbooking stash and found some little shiny silver stickers. They've got a bit more oomph to them than foil, but not so much they look super thick. Punched one out and placed it over the hole, and it looks pretty decent. I think if I put a coat of Future over it, it should blend right in. One of these days I'll get this thing done!

Another of my *to do* list! I am speechless over your builds..................
Does anyone have any ideas, pro/con, about doing a Monogram Indy car conversion for this one?
Nose is different, but how much else??
Thanks!

Hi ya!
You'd be better off getting Bill Jorgensen's 1953 Body. Too much work to do it from the old Monogram Kurtis. Bill's body is the right size and shape, and with a little effort, you have a beautiful model of that car.
The old Monogram Kurtis is great for doing one of many mid-1950's Kurtis roadsters though. The 1955 John Zink Special comes to mind. It needs a detail set for the cockpit though. But the old kits has some nice features to it. Best to you!

Hey Russ,
I've been getting back to this project and doing some decalling, and wondered if I could bother you with a question. That looks like a Perfect Circle sticker next to the Champion, but what are the other two? And would there be a AAA tech sticker on there somewhere?
Thanks for the help.

Hi ya Guy!
Yes, One is the AAA Inspection sticker and the others is a sticker the Indianapolis Motor Speedway put on the cars, a track sticker for the race, if you will. If you need these decals, just drop me a note, I think I have a couple left over.
Best to you
Russ
