Since I've finished the Lightning I'm in the middle of two different modeling projects that have three things in common: they both have wings, incredibly skilled racers piloted them and I'm currently working on them. The first is Ryan Hunter-Reay's Indianapolis winner from. this season being built from Calvin's kit. The other is Charlie Glotzbach's 1969 Charger Daytona from the Revell ProModeller kit. Two totally different cars from two distinctly different eras, the three things I mentioned before are the only thing that really ties them together. I've not gotten too far with either one so far, but I thought I'd share what I've done. What do you think?

Now Jerry is doing 2 at a time. Looks like we have a new machine.

Here's my progress on the RHR machine, I'm doing it a little different than what the instructions said. I've attached the front A-arms and the rear wheel guards before I painted it. I'll have it painted hopefully later on this week. I do have a question going forward, are the real A-arms made of composite fiber? I have the cf decals if so. It's looking pretty good so far, Calvin produces kits as well as he builds them!

As I learned in the tour of the Dallara factory, the a-arms are steel (aluminum?) but have a carbon fibre cover for the tethers and brake lines. Penske chromes them, some others might paint them, but most look like carbon fiber.

Well, I'm glad you like it. That is the first run of DW12's I did and that was before the great pressure tank era that Duane blessed me with. I wont hide the fact the that 2nd run of DW12's are better kits, but I think the price justified that. and I don't use Alumilite resin anymore I use better and safer smooth-on.
Jerry just build it how you want....... this was a tough kit to figure out how to design and manufacture....I'm just glad most of you guys realize I'm still learning how to do this stuff.
Yes the suspension is C/F and I think they are titanium that are covered with C/F?
BTW when you prime it - expect to be filling in little pin holes....the downside of a non pressure cast resin.

I love the idea of this build. If you haven't seen my thread in the "general section" of the forums I am building a 16th scale charger. That may help if you'd like to take a peek at it. As for everything else....just build it the way YOU want it.

I've got the Chrome and Daytona Yellows on the car along with a healthy percentage of the composite fiber decals, they've gone on much easier than I thought so far. It's closer and closer in resemblance to RHR's winner!

I'm the one that talks a lot on here and annoys everyone. I hardly have anything in stock right now as everyone picks it over real fast.....I'm going to try to get the shelves restocked after winter is over with as its too hard for me to do resin in the winter.... I've been plugging along with this kit, I've been busier at work and in other parts of my life so I've not had as much a chance to do any work on the car, but it's coming right along! I found some time tonight to get a little more finished on my car. The composite fiber is all on and the cockpit and struts have been painted black. I got a few decals on the car and hope to get a few more on there throughout the next few days. This is a good kit and it's coming along quite well!

I've got most of the decals on the car, I will need to touch some of them up but all in all I like how it's looking so far. I added carbon fiber decals to the A struts. It's hard to tell in the shot, but they're there. I'm slowly getting this car shaped up.

The RHR car is looking great. What color of paint did you use for the main body and for the front wings? Also here is a picture from the Dallara factory of what the suspension would look like if they did not cover them.

I used Tamiya Chrome yellow for the body and Model Master Daytona Yellow for the wings!
Thanks for the kind words and the photo, I hope to have this car pretty much wrapped up this week!

I've made some more progress, I set up the stance and will glue it in place tomorrow. I'm almost there.
