If anyone knows me, knows I'm kinda nuts about the 1978 Budweiser Lightning....I got Kevin's beautiful Lighting Offy kit, telling myself I will do Guthrie's car like I'm supposed to! But every time I look at it I still saw my beloved Budweiser Lightning I've been dreaming of for years and years and years...... so I fought with myself for the last month NOT to touch it and not to turn it into a Cosworth....but after Jerry S. built his very nice Guthrie Lighting I didn't feel guilty anymore and went off and started sawing away!
Now here's the deal, I'm going to be making a master engine cover for this no matter what and if Kevin K. wants it, I will be more than happy to send it to him...but I don't want him to feel pressured into it as this just my own little dream....what ever Kevin wants I will go by.
This was the first car Pancho Carter drove after his horrible crash at Phoenix testing in 1977. Its a Fletcher Racing Team car and the best result of the year of 2nd (5 laps down) was at the highest attrition race of the year at the California 500 when only 5 cars finished the race! This is ironic as this car had a terrible finishing record because of mechanical trouble and the best race turns out to be highest mechanical trouble for everyone else! LOL
Cut off the left side of the body.
Then sawed it off! Since I post that article about the Fastest Beer Wagon all the time on here and without over doing it I just worked it into the picture!
The PC6 Cosworth fit up to this Lighting very well, there really isn't much to it...I have it all mocked up and now I need to sculpt out the engine cover.
Its about time I build a car I'm actually passionate about! Most of the time I'm building cars that are on my "like" list but not on my "Passionate" list!
Also I'm kind of a self proclaimed expert on the 1978 USAC Indy season....so if you have any questions just ask! Becuase I will most likely want to talk about it!
