Looking for a good pic of the inside of this style front rim, inside & outside of the rear rim, good shot (or more) of the flo yellow deflector wings in front of the sidepod radiator openings, and a pic of the steering wheel used wouldn't be turned down either Jordan

good shot (or more) of the flo yellow deflector wings in front of the sidepod radiator openings, The other day I saw a great picture of the deflectors that was really good! But I cant remember were I saw that at! Those side defectors are actually warped looking from a head on shot, they are not straight believe it or not.

I took these a few years ago at the IMS museum, hopefully they help Scott Is it me or do these rears seem to be bit convex? From this angle they don't look really flat to me. And yeah Calvin I noticed the twist in the wing and was hoping to get a better idea of where it starts, stops, etc. Jordan

One comment about these wheels. They are not BBS but rather an obscure wheel called "Bart Wheels". They greatly resemble BBS, yet were different. They were very heavy by comparison and had a tendency to crack in between the webbings. I only recall a couple of teams who used them, Hemelgarn Racing and MacCormack Motorsports. Perhaps there were others during the IRL era but for sure they are not BBS.

Jordan,
This may help. From what I was told by the team way back when. The team never ran this style wheel. They were only used for the victory photos the day after the race. I also went back and can not find any photos during the month when they used this style wheel on any of the teams three entries in 1996. They ran the BBS wheels during the race in both black and silver on Buddy's car. The car ended the race with black BBS wheels on it.

Thanks, Eric. I guess I will shelve this as it really isn't accurate for Buddy's 500 winner. I do have the front rim drawn up in 3D but guess I don't really need to pursue the rears.

i think they used the tow tires for that photo shoot.
Weirder yet, he qualified on silver rims, but not the ones you see in the winner shoot.
They're the normal mid-90's era rims...dont know who made them though.

From what I was told by one of the tire changers, they qualified on a rim that he called a Reynard wheel. I don't recall Reynard making wheels (maybe he was mistaken or maybe I just never heard of them) but he said they only used them on the first stint of the race. He said since they qualified on them, they had to start the race on them. The rest of the race he said they used BBS (or it may have been Bart as Steve said). All I remember for certain was that the first set was different. It's part of a bigger story which is amazing that Buddy finished that race without crashing. Here's the qualifying photo.

I thought those were Lola rims!? I doubt they are Reynard rims as the Pennzoil/Fabi pic is from 1993, a year before Reynard got into IndyCars. Someone here knows though probably.... Jordan

Maybe he said Lola. He definitely mentioned a chassis manufacturer when he referenced them.

As a side note.....when I went to Hemelgarn's shop in Indy and met with them they told an interesting story about this winner. While on route to a show the trailer carrying the car was struck and over turned causing heavy damage to the car. all of the damaged and bent pieces were replaced and the car is still displayed as the 96 winner.....just with a few different parts and pieces.

Those are some of the best photos of the car I've ever seen. Wow!
Didn't know so many teams ran out of 130 Gasoline Alley either. I always thought it was Hemelgarn's shop. I must have been by there 100 times going to SAMAX, Playa Del, then Dragon and now VDS Racing Engines.

Doc was driving when that happened. He said a car cut him off. He was bruised and banged up a bit but no broken bones. I was selling alarm systems at the time Green was in that shop. I worked with his wife on designing a system for the shop they were getting ready to build on Zionsville Road (now home to Andretti Autosport). Then I was in there when I was a weekend warrior for Hemelgarn for 4 or 5 races in '99. I've got some pics of the car in the shop also that I had forgotten about. They must be on my back up drive. Have to look after I get back from Mid Ohio this weekend.

Speaking of those wheels, I always liked Stan's 1995 version even more than Buddy's... too bad about the turn 1 crash. Stan was going to have a great run, the car was fast.
