Gary Doucette's latest offering of the 1941 Indy Winner is now listed on e-bay under "Indy Resin" or you can contact Gary directly. I can't keep up with my building but I don's want to miss this one this time around. Gary said this is an all new version of the '41 car not a reissue of his older kit. Enjoy! Jim

Just like the 47 and 48 Blue Crowns trick everyone and show up as light blue in B&W pictures but dark blue in color pics!

At least with this one the evidence is pretty irrefutable. Unfortunately I like the light blue better.

I thought I was the only one that went last weekend. We may have been in there at the same time!

Just a little more info. Gary asked me to post that the seat back in the kit is not as thick as the photos Calvin posted. Those photos were of a preproduction build.

I just bought one from Gary and will be starting it soon. Does anyone know where I can get additional photos of the car showing the suspension better, and maybe the dash and also what seems to be a cooler of some type right under the car near the left front wheel? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Just watched color footage of the 41 race, the winner appears briefly at the begining. At first it is a head on shot and the car does appear darker than it is now but as the car pulls out and goes by the camera the lighting changes and the blue gets lighter, much closer to how it is restored than how the first turn productions image shows it. It should also be noted that first turn productions often "enhances" some of thier color images, do not know if this image of the 41 winner was one of them. Personally , I just do not trust any color film from this period, still or motion. Will try to have my wife help me post the vidio this weekend (she's the tech person in the family).

I'm guessing this is what you were watching.
Even with the color getting lighter as it gets more light as it pulls away, it is still considerably darker than the current restoration. A light blue car would be very washed out in that very bright sunlight.
The one thing the still photo has going for it, is right behind the car there is a guy wearing a light blue shirt that is about the same color as the currently restored car.
The actual car may not be quite as dark as that still photo, but it is definitely darker than the current restoration.
I'm not a video expert, but I have played with it a bit including attempts at color correction. It is NOT easy to do. I would be shocked if First Turn are doing any thing more than simple saturation/hue adjustments. Selective color correction (i.e., just changing the color of one car) involves complex masking so as not to have the same adjustments applied to other similarly colored items in the frame. Case in point, if you don't use masks and you try to make light blue darker, it will affect the whole image - including the sky - and it will look very unnatural.
I will agree that it is very difficult to ascertain the exact colors from the still/film footage from 1941, but it does give you a good idea when there are consistencies from one source to another.

Freeze the video at the 1:19 mark and the blue is nowhere near as dark as the still, infact there are about 4 different shades of blue present. I have only seen this and the still in color and based on what I have seen would be very hesitant to say one is right and the other wrong, I think a case can be made for either possibility at this point. And yes the restored car is lighter than the one in the video.

I actually know the correct color, but Craig banned me from color debates.....since he's my advisor I have to listen. So now I have to watch you guys go back and forth now and I cant even say a darn thing or I get fined.

Hopefully Craig doesn't see this, but I say the best choice of color for the 1941 Winner is Tamiya TS-23 Light Blue.
