I'm a huge Jeff Gordon fan. I have been since I saw him racing midgets at IRP when he was 17, so I'm no front runner. I was thrilled to see him win his 5th Brickyard. But during all the post race hoopla the most assinine statement I heard was that Jeff now joins Michael Shumacher as the only 5 time winners at Indy. I hate that they lump all the multi-time winners in one group. AJ, Rick and Al are one group, because of the race they won and the type of car they drove. Michael is in another group because of the type of car he drove and the track he drove on. Jeff is in a completely different group because of the type of car he drove and the distance covered. Maybe I'm being anal, but it just fries me. Even though I love seeing Jeff win 5, a 4 time 500 winner trumps that in my book.

No S**T! Very happy for Gordon, but I knew the "5 time" talk was going to start.
I'm guessing the first person to say "they just ain't the same!" would be Jeff.

I agree, in fact he said that when he won his 4th

I agree, but you need to remember that NASCAR, long with all other racing, is in deep trouble. Everyone is trying to generate as much hype as possible. Most people vote with there wallets, and they don't think the current products are worth the price.

If they want to combine everyone Technically Jeff Gordon has only tied the 4 time 500 winner with 2,000 Miles. So if all of a sudden the BY400 is just as important as the 500 then why dont people show up to watch....The 500 attendance has been betting the 400 by a TON the past 5 years..... I wouldn't get worked up over this as just nascar themselves down in Daytona beach is ones that think its a combine deal. We know it - Nascar fans know it - that the 500 Mile sweepstakes its still the greatest race in the world. With that said - my favorite song!

If it were the Indy 400, think of how many wins Mario would have. Think of Michael Andretti's total. Think of A J Foyt's Min-Borg' collection. No, to me there is no comparison, and being annoyed by it is not anal.

I think they should lose a win every time they do donuts over the yard of bricks!

Ray Harroun has at least seven wins at IMS. Records are incomplete, but I thought I counted 11 wins for Harroun once, but the IMS bio on Harroun from the greatest 33 says he won 'at least seven' races.
