In our "spare" time, between making molds, pouring resin and packaging products, etc. Ed and I have been working on display models for the shows we attend. This is Pete DePaolo's 1925 winner, the first driver to average over 100 mph for the entire 500 mile race. I have a few items to finish, but it's getting pretty close to being done. Thanks for looking. Tom

Outstanding build and great photos. I would also be interested in what paint you used on the body.

The build looks nice and clean which really shows off the elegant bodystyle. I also feel compelled to commend the bases, as the are so well done that I'm drooling over how realistically weathered they look.

Great looking car! The rear wheel covers set it apart IMO.

Thank you all for the complements. I really enjoyed this build, everything goes together so precisely. The only additions I made to the car are the hood straps and the steering wheel wrapping. We are glad we can make the Etzel line available again.
I'm quite happy with the track bases, they turned out pretty well. I pretty much followed the original Etzel instructions, which is a base color and then a lot of dry brushing and washes. I've done one brick base before, but this is my first attempt at the board track base.
I have had the hardest time capturing the correct yellow in these photos, seems whatever I try, the pictures don't look quite right to me. Anyway, the color I used (believe it or not) is Rustoleum Summer Squash that I picked up at the Home Depot. After polishing to 6000, I applied the decals, and then put on Testor's Wet Look Clear and polished it again.
Thanks again. TomF

How ironic: summer squash on a car they called "The Banana". Looks great, by the way...

Thanks so much for sharing this and making these models available again. Terrific build with great attention to detail. Makes one think they are right there at IMS. Jim

I got a chance to see this model and Tom at the nats in Hampton, VA last weekend. Great build! We also had a fun time bench racing and talking about model building and other important things!
