I'm not a very serious collector but I've picked some up from time to time on eBay and decided yesterday to finally mount the Rick Mears ones I had together. Far from comprehensive but the 22 I have fit well in the 8x10 shadow box with room for at least four more without having to crowd or rearrange. They are mounted on a couple of foamboard pieces that were shipped with a decal buy last year with a 88 cent black foam sheet from Hobby Lobby or Wal-Mart. The final result ended up looking pretty sharp, I think. What you can't see isn't so pretty though LOL Jordan

Very cool! I've got a pin from every 500 I've been to and I've been trying to come up with a good way to display them.

I collect pins that are of an automotive nature, not just 500 pins. I think I have perhaps 30 or so.
(I love the "5 wins" pin... very cool)

Somewhere (currently a mystery to me) I have a bunch of Foyt pins--some even are roadsters. Don't collect them and I don't know where or when I got them.

I've got a mannequin in my display room (call her Ann, as in Indy Anna). She's wearing a mobile racing shirt with a checkered flag sash that I put all my Indy pins on. I had to sew VELCRO to the ends of the sash because it became too heavy to stay over her shoulder.

Excellent work Jordon. I really like your idea so now I am thinking of doing the same with my Mario pins. Thanks!

I've been accumulating pins for many years. Living in Indy, I constantly find them at auctions and garage sales, aside from the ones I've acquired at the races. My board is 4' x 3' and is almost finished. Each tells a story and brings back a specific memory. The only problem is the board is now too heavy to hang and I must re-enforce it before proceeding!

So, my Rick Mears pin collection has grown a lot (not Steve Turner levels though LOL). Here is where the conversation started in mid-2014 13 months later in mid-2015 I had filled out the 8"x10" shadow box really well. In 2018, I picked up a 16"x20" display case at Hobby Lobby, I could not fill it By mid-2019, it was filling up fast. Layout has been a struggle, trying to tell a story more than stick a bunch of pins up randomly. Here I am trying to use Tamiya tape to space out pins. I had struggled with how to display the 4x Borg-Warner Trophies. Mears won in 79 & 84 with the original cup. His 88 & 91 wins are on the original expanded base. In the above photo you can see just to the right of middle, two different styles of Borg trophy pins. It was a bit of struggle 2x old and 2x new was more correct (though I think the 88/94 wins were on a short base). I picked the current Borg pin to do 4x as a cleaner look. Finally last year I laid it out and mounted it on foam. By this point I had dropped the Bronze Badge as they took up a lot of space and did not add much, to me. I also have cut some of the sponsor only pins like Mobil 1, as chasing down every lower tier sponsor over his whole career was a large undertaking with minimal benefit, to me. Last week, I moved a few pins to accommodate some new acquisitions. Current layout, behind glass Overall, it flows decently well and allows a story to be told. The collection is not done. I am looking for several specific pins to add while being open to more unknown possibilities. I have also bought some black fabric to put between the foam and pins to offer a more uniform background as the look of foam in large pieces is inconsistent. Adding the fabric is for another day as pulling all the pins and remounting will be a time consuming affair. Jordan
