I've never been to the IMS museum. Are there a lot of people running around with tape measures and note pads?

I suppose there are but it is hard to do since you cannot get really up close to the cars for good reason. These are pieces of history and some would have fingerprints and worse all over them. I try to take good pictures, work from them, and try to do some other research. Several of us have built the Monogram Kurtis kits for years. I built one as a teenager when they first came out. I built the Sweikert winner years ago not realizing that the cockpit was off. Others on this forum did even going to the extent of making kits available which correct that along with side panels, grill, and wheels. Each of us has to decide what we want and are comfortable with. I built kits because I wanted to at that point in time. I tried to make them as accurate as I could but we each have our own definition of that. If you don't believe me, just ask the question "Should we build our Indy cars as they qualified or as they raced?" and you will get a host of answers all of which are right for the person answering. The main thing for me is the fun I have building, being a part of this forum and sharing with all of you, and then the enjoyment of looking at my completed models and the wonderful memories they hold. My best, Jim

I think thats overkill trying to cut down it down and all that stuff. Remember this kit supposedly is 1/24 scale. But you got to realize the Kurtis Kraft was a big car and when you put this model up side by side with an Etzel 1/25 Watson (Which IMO is one the most accurate models out there) the Kurtis is only slightly bigger. BTW I took over the Kurtis Kraft conversion masters from Tim Jones (Alwaysindy)and will be coming out with those latter this summer......With the new type of resin of course and new and improved tires and wheels.

I remember a Motor Show in Barcelona... there was a Lancia Delta S4 (group B, WRC in 1986) and fortunately I carried one of those flexible taylor's measuring tape. I managed to measure each and every bit of the car

I don't think all that work is necessary, that kit looks just fine the way it is. Maybe some new tires...
Besides, I think he has the contour of the nose wrong. It looks way too fat to me.

OK, Calvin let the cat out of the bag...I sent him my masters and my molds. I apologize to all that have asked about these, as I got REALLY tired of casting...another big problem was my tires were always sold as Chris Etzel copies, which are now owned byArt etc...I am positive that Calvin will handle these with the enthusiasm and customer service he is known for...he also has plans to expand the line with scoops, exhausts,, noses, new tires, wheels, etc. to do many more cars... A HUGE shout out to Michael, who's blog on his website sent me customers from Europe, South America etc...Michael: please change your bog to say "available soon from Classic Racing Resin"...
A special comment: resin casting ain't for Wussies ...it eats up your modeling time as well as time to pack and mail the parts...if you want happy customers, you have to do it RIGHT NOW...the money you make goes right back into more resin, more cups, more stir sticks,etc.,etc., very tough row to hoe...Calvin has enough variety to probably make it work, but it will still be a job (something us old retired guys don't want)...
So please take a moment to appreciate the guys who do this (and have done it) , because the current variety of available Indycars is so far beyond anything I ever dreamed...in 1965, a book on historic race cars was my intro...I badly wanted to make Salih, Kurtis, Watson, and Novi cars and believed I never would, but as I type this, I have the Boyle Maserati, Emmo's 89,Ruttman's winner, and many other "holy grails" from that time...it is a great time to be an Indy modeler!
Thanks to all of my many customers; I hope you liked the parts... Tim(formerly Alwaysindy Resin)

Before you start on a project like that, you better make sure that you have every measurment just right, and lots of photos. Just because it looks wrong to you, is not a reason to do all that cutting IMO. I have built several Monogram Kurtis kits, and they can, with some work, look very good. Remember, that kit is almost 60 years old. This hobby is all about doing your own thing, but, again IMO that is a lot of work for something that may well not be as accurate as the kit. If Monogram had done as good a job on their 80's Indy car kits, we all might be building them. My $.02 Craig

Tim is 100% correct. The supply end of our hobby is a tough go. If you think you are going to make, and sell stuff, and make big money, think again.

I would contact Oldphotos and get a Clidinst scale drawing from him, then decide for yourself what changes to the body will need to be made.

What is this "Oldphotos"? I really need some Clidinst drawings. Sent for some early last winter. Never cashed my check or sent any drawings. If Oldphotos has the Clidinst drawings I would love to know how to get them!!!!

I posted this in April and ALL the money goes to Bob all you have to do is contact me and let me know which car you want and 1/24 or 1/25 scale drawings
I have talked to Bob Clidinst, His health is not good in his own words, He will miss working at the Indy 500 for the first time in the last 50 years. During are conversation I ask if he would be OK if I sold his drawing's for him and forward all the money To him. Bob said that was fine with him, So if anybody needs some of Bob's drawing you can contact me and I will get them to you. He said the drawings are $5 each with $1 postage. I make nothing off the sale of these drawings as all the money goes to Bob, which is only fair for all Bob has done for all the Indy Modeler's You can contact me through the message board The list is posted earlier in this post, If you don't see it on the list ask we may have it. Bob has made arrangements to get some of his drawing that are not finished to me and we are going to try and get those completed.

Met Bob years ago. Bill Jorgensen took me to his house. (remember that Bill?) Hope his health returns, Good to know that someone has access to Bob's wonderful drawings. Making a 500A and had to shorten things according to stats I culled from sources. Got a set of American Racing Miniatures early 50's Halibrand mags/tires at the show this year. Really nice items.
