On the windscreen: Skoal Bandit Wow! That's hawkeye, definitely. You're raight. Refraction was fooling me and made me see colors where they were not. On the other pic I have, yes, the L is quite obvious. Thanks again!! I am also fiddling with the USAC stickers. In the trip, I found some. Ebay is a nice source. The USAC one is quite clrear, but the round and "indy track" shaped ones are harder. Yes there are the years in vertical, but the stuff in the middle is complicated. I have one clear view of 1985 one, and it's oldsmobile stuff... not sure if it was the same in 1988. Nevertheless at this scale it'll be quite unvisible.

There are three USAC stickers, similar but different. They are year specific, varying from year to year. The first is "registered car", the second is "tech inspection" and the third is "final sticker". The last one means the car has run fast enough to be allowed a qualifying attempt.

I guess it's Earls behind the Stant logo. There is a photo on Ebay that can be zoomed in some more. This One

I concur on the Earl's, in the earlier photo, the white and black one is The Wax Shop.

Yes, I also agree on the EARL'S. In fact, later I took a look at the Monogram Mac Tools decal sheet and all were there, including some of the other ones I asked about. Thanks, guys. And yes the explanation on the USAC stickers is quite interesting, did not know their meanings. Let's see what I mange to do. I concur on the Earl's, in the earlier photo, the white and black one is The Wax Shop. ...er but sorry I don't know which B/W you mean... Thanks again!

OK, guys, some update here. I hope to start to get cruiser speed from now on. Yes, yes, I know it ain't too much, just 3 poor Monograms, but for me it's important to finish three Indycars! Decal making is on the way, and meanwhile some paint. I'm rather bad at this, but the result is acceptable. Somehow I didn't feel like priming, so it cost me dear to hide those filled former wishbone pickpoints.... Masking for the SKOAL car went troublefree. I did not remove the masking for the floor, so I already have it for the clear. The red one had no paintjob to protect... Thanks for watching!

Some progress, decals finished. Thanks for all the support! As you see, I have not decalled the Skoal car's body. As I commented before, I reduced height of the windshield/cockpit sides on TWO of the cars. The idea was to make that on both Mario's cars and leave the SKOAL one by Monogram standards, as it has a decal over the windshield. But I swithced the white cars and painted green the one I shouldn't. So I am not quite sure if using the Monogram windshield and trim it, or wait to have the vacformed replicas and trim it too. Probably second thing. Meanwhile, those are like this. Haven't decalled the Ultimate Amoco one yet... Thanks for watching

Hello guys, time for some updates. First of all as I commented, I wanted to make Vac formed windscreens. So here we go with the plug. Nothing special, a resin copy of the Monogram part, with some added stuff to help the vacfroming process... And here come the parts... windscreens anyone?? ;-) And then came the painting. I tried Tamiya smoke, but it is sooooo light and clear... So I finally went with pure black. After all as the color builds up, it's a traslucent thing to all effects... Finally some X22 clear. I painted three before trimming, one once trimmed, to see how paint behaved. Quite similar result. But on the trimmed part I have paint on the inner side, which is not desireable for cementing. After trimming, some dry fitting. Looks fine. And then I glued them in place. I had to make the two for the modified units a bit lower, nothing special. I thought of several ways to glue them. In the end I chose trusty and fast cyano... yeah, call me lazy! I was particularly interested on making this for the SKOAL car, as there's decal to be put on the windscreen, but unlike the two MArio cars, this goes just over the boundary between windshield and body. It finally goes ina different way to the real car, but as I said I mistook the cars and this one should have been the one without lowered windshield/chassis. It went fine anyway I like this decal scheme, and I really fely like having it done to see the result! And here go the three cars, ready for clear coat... So this is now quite close to the ending, happy ending I hope!!! Thanks for passing by, watching and commenting. Just wanna say that this would have been impossible to do without all the boys at the board and their precious help, and also thanks to Windecker's pictures ;-) Cheers to all J

OK, All three clearcoated. I made an experiment: TS13 straight from the can on the TAmiya acrylics airbrushed with lacquer thinner. They stood the atack... almost! I had some paint solved at some places. I guess if I had given a mist coast, and LET dry, I might have applied the wet one without annoyances... Anyway the small trouble I fixed here and there... I really wanted to remove the masking and see the bodyworks together, specially with John's car Thanks for watching! BR to all... J

A bit more... It's a wheel thing!!! And I made the roll hoops, trying to make them of the proper dimensions. The Monogram ones are thick, narrow and short... Good sunday, mates!

These are so ridiculously great! All three great choices and that John Andretti Skoal Bandit I have never seen built. It's one of my favorite paint schemes of all-time and ones you rarely see. It's a similar car, but I painted a sim car in the 1987 Skoal Bandit trim. I wont' clog your great Lola thread with my photos, but here's a link... imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1135x612q90/924/2jnXXl.jpgActual car: imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1135x616q90/921/e9Es2R.jpgOne thing I noticed is there are many different versions of the "BANDIT" font in the mid-to-late 80's. Less so in NASCAR, but the Curb IndyCars were all over the place. In fact, the 1987 car has two different versions on the same car. It was odd, but you nailed the artwork!

Thaaanks!!! er, let's see... ooops.... It seems I put your images!! hey, no fears of clogging at all, pics always welcome! Thanks for sharing. I hadn't realized that the 87 car was so similar to 1988 livery, with that "collar" on the nose and all. Nice too. Thanks for the compliments! and yes if anyone wants a set of the '88 car, let's talk I'll give these three a push today, so stay tuned for updtaes. Thanks for passing and commenting! J

Thanks Paul!! that's truly welcome! They are really full of flaws, but I did some things on them that I'll repeat in others, and will try not to repeat the mistakes I am happy with the relocation of suspensions and how it improves the car (shame I have no Monogram Lolas left) and specially happy about the unedited so far SKOAL '88 livery ( BTW if some wants a set jsut throw a pm), the scratch mirrors of the white Lola, or the first successful vac formed windshields... and mostly to have them ready at last after all this time. Thanks for your support!

They all look great. The Monogram kits are not the best, but you made them shine. Thanks for showing us.

Great quartet. I think the Skoal is the one that catches my eye the most in the group, maybe because it is the least common scheme you see built. Thanks for sharing the WIP on these, it was informative on all the work it took to make them look so good.

Thanks Craig! That was the idea, since they were (the Monograms I mean) my introduction to Indycars, they deserved my first builds, and also giving them some credit. Unusual schemes were a good trick to get away from their usual look. Thanks Jordan for the compliments, too! Same here, I am particularly happy with the SKOAL one. 8-)I was browsing an '88 (Men and machines) looking for ideas, and I said, hey, it's gotta be that one. I love to see "previosuly unseen" cars, so if it's mine, double pleaasure! Thanks for coming and commenting James Next ones will be better!!!
