Hey Michael, Just reordered the same 1/18th scale 71 Unser winner decals I got from you last week. Let's just say that mistaking my clear for silver paint doesn't work out too well. Totally my fault. Just wanted you to know so that you don't think I am crazy and you wondering what in the world this guy is doing with another two sets.
Any other horror stories out there guys?
Stu

Not on a car, but on some miniature figures I painted once. I thought I was grabbing a can of Dullcote, when in fact it was flat black. I said something like, "Golly, I made an error."

I read posts like this and I just KNOW I'm going to do something similar in the next few months! I talked to Russ on the phone a while ago and he told me about sticking himself in the leg with a scalpel and it wasn't a week later and I was gimping downstairs with my hand wrapped around my calf, bleeding like a stuck pig because I stood up, forgetting that MY scalpel was lying on my thigh! Stuck right in the side of my calf, no stitches, fortunately. Oh well, could have been worse. Sorry to hear about your troubles, too, guys.

OOohhhhh!!!! I've done that before, but usually on minor parts that were easy to fix.

ouch! i didn't know modeling was such a dangerous hobby! the only stitches i've managed to get were at work. building furniture is an enjoyable vocation but you can alter your body rather quickly. i did manage to superglue a couple of toes together while at the model bench one night! the wife thought that was good for a laugh. duane

You can tell a serious modeler by the number of Xacto scars on his fingers. Sandy

.....or a seroiusly clumsy modeler...been modeling for 30 + years and have only whacked myself twice with the exacto...both times using it in an unsafe manner.

So true....
Xacto knifes and I have had many run ins....The first time I used a scalpel after my good friend Chris Etzel talked me into it.....I tapped my finger lightly just once.....and I bled like a stuck pig! Xacto Knifes are sharp, but nothing next to a scalpel!
Best to you
Russ

Isn't it amazing how much blood can come from a little tiny wound!! Duane, I'm not sure if you're brave or crazy in revealing your toe episode!!

You guys are cracking me up. Being a hockey player, I've had my share of moments where the coach said "stitch him up and get him back on the ice", but it's never happened while building models. Herk's story of sticking a scalpel in his leg did remind me of a time I was playing a golf tournament. I buried a shot in a bunker and when I played the bunker shot, my wedge snapped and the jagged edge of the shaft cut my knee. I hobbled for the next 30 holes before figuring out that a visit to the emergency room was warranted. I took 4 stitches PLAYING GOLF! But again, it hasn't happened from building models.

My *worst* modeling cut came from an X-Acto carving blade in the big handle. I actually stuck the blade into my inner thigh. Don't ask................... ;D

Curse this thread! Wouldn't you know, I just did it this weekend? Trying to clean a little flash off an exhaust header, holding the tiny part in one hand and working the x-acto with the other... slice right down the tip of my middle finger. Oops!

I don't ever do the schadenfreude thing, you know, taking delight in the misfortune of others because it's just bad karma. And I won't do it here either, but for someone of your considerable skills to do that, well, there's just no hope for most of the rest of us. A minor accident is going to happen, it's just a matter of when. One thing though. Don't show your wife the finger without raising another digit with the cut finger. Pregnant women interpret things totally different than they do when not pregnant.

oh yeah, I forgot to mention the cut from the PE saw blade in the Dremel I got last week. A tiny slip and it got the tip of the middle finger on my right hand. Didn't know it was cut until I saw some blood on what I was working on. CA glue fixed it right up!

I think I did show it to her, but held all five digits up, palm out like a traffic cop. I actually hadn't cut myself like that in a very long time. It's healing nicely, though.
